LIBRARY

LAKE | FLATO 2014 The new $120 million Library will establish a major civic presence and community gathering space in the heart of downtown, overlooking Shoal Creek and Lady Bird Lake. The 198,000-square-foot building will be defined by a light-filled, six-story atrium wrapped by collections and event spaces. Distinctive elements include a series of reading porches that overlook the water and a 350-seat special events center that will support the city’s engaging culture and arts scene. The library’s sustainable strategies include a major photovoltaic panel array, a rainwater harvesting system, and a landscaped roof. The facility supports alternative transportation with charging stations for electric cars, a 150-bike corral, and direct connections to the multi-use paths that run along the water.

PAVILION

LAKE | FLATO 2014 The Pavilion is newly certified as the first Living Building Challenge ™ project in the State of Texas. The Living Building Challenge™ is a rigorous certification program that advocates for a fully restorative building. The 5,400 square foot open air pavilion is a meeting and education center that serves as a demonstration site for the Dixon Water Foundation, whose mission is to promote healthy watersheds through sustainable land management to ensure the preservation of our water resources. The beauty in the design for the Josey Pavilion lies in how the simple, low-lying forms speak to the surrounding native prairie land. This simple building has met the challenge of being a fully restorative Living Building—a mission that ties directly to the Dixon Foundation’s message of resource conservation and watershed protection AWARDS: 2016 | U.S. WoodWorks Wood Design Award 2016 | Chicago Athenaeum American Architecture Award 2016 | AIA Committee on the Enviroment Top Ten Project Award 2015 | Architizer A+ Award for Architecture + Sustainability 2015 | Texas Society of Architects / AIA Design Award 2014 | AIA San Antonio Design Award

Integrated with an existing historic Arsenal building, the master plan seeks to create a new cohesive complex for H-E-B’s corporate campus as it doubles its size. Taking advantage of the seasonally temperate climate for exterior circulation, building’s are configured around courtyards and linked by a series of open-air atriums, portals and arcades. The Arsenal structure will provide architectural cues for materials and detailing of new and existing building. The design for the new urban market will reflect the adjacent historic King William neighborhood, creating a quiet presence that makes use of existing trees, open space, and interior daylighting.

BROADWAY STATION VENTURE 2015-2016

This new, ground-up facility is being studied for a mixed-use development. The project is intended to infuse old and new with the modern glass screen which allows for maximizing views against a lower level classic brick exterior. The proposal includes a rooftop restaurant and bar which balances the clients programatic requests while making the most of the vibrant neighborhood which surrounds it.

Our team was challenged by the client to establish a “never before seen” concept that reflected the company’s unique and exclusive approach to their work. Having had much success, they wanted a space that they could be proud of and that reflected their clients’ special interests. They wanted a space which evoked a combination of refinement with and artistic flair. The client’s teams work long and intense hours. To better support their team, in addition to highly functional spaces with beautifully finished height adjustable tables, we wove in huddle, teaming, and relax spaces that fit their culture.

9270 Residence The site for this project has one main view to the southwest towards Silverthorne, Colorado and Buffalo Peak. The intent of the project was to focus the views towards the iconic landscape and have the iconic views constantly present in the experience of the house while creating other introspective moments of experience. The main living space of the house maintains an open plan configuration and borrows Buffalo Peak and brings it into the space. This relationship is further maintained by the ability to completely open sliding glass doors for an uninhibited view and a seamless connectino between interior and exterior spaces. The house consists of two bedrooms, a great room, master bedroom, master bathroom and art studio.
