English Highway Podcast Pronunciation: The long /e/ (#0261) Practice the long /e/ vowel sound using vocabulary words and sentences. Announcer

You’re about to listen to an audio lesson from OpenEnglish.com. Welcome to another audio lesson. I’m Andres Moreno, your English coach. I hope you’re ready, because I’m full of energy today. Let’s have a great lesson! The first thing we’re going to do today is smile. Please smile for me. Now say, “eee.” Smile and say: “eee” Really big smile: “eee” Way to go! You’re practicing the long “e,” as in cheese and tea. Every time we say the long “e,” we smile. So repeat after me: “cheese” “e” “cheese” That’s it. Repeat after me, once again: “I’d like some cheese please.” “please” “cheese” One last time, repeat after me: “I’d like some cheese please.” That’s it, you got it. Listen to the following sentence. Would you like some coffee or tea to go with your cheese? Now repeat after me: “coffee”

The “e” sound is at the end, “coffee” “coffee.” So repeat after me: “coffee” And again: “coffee” Now repeat after me: “tea” “coffee or tea” Good job. Now repeat after me: “Would you like some cream in your coffee or tea?” That was a long sentence, so let’s break it up. Repeat after me: “Would you like some cream” “cream” Good job. Here’s the other part of the sentence. Repeat after me: “in your coffee or tea” Way to go. Now, let’s try the whole sentence once again. Repeat after me: “Would you like some cream with your coffee or tea?” Good job. Let’s practice with another sentence. Repeat after me: “teacher” “He teaches.” “My friend Jeff teaches.” Way to go. Here’s another example. Repeat after me: “green” “He loves to use green.” “The painter loves to use green.” Great job! Here’s a similar example. Repeat after me: “The teacup is green.” An original Open English production in association with Cl@se. Copyright© FoxyP2 Inc. and Rainbow Heights International LLC

Let’s keep practicing.

“Chinese” “Japanese” “meet” “she” Great! One more time: “Chinese” “Japanese” “meet” “she” Good job. So repeat after me: “Meet Kim.” “She is Chinese.” And again, come on: “Meet Kim. She is Chinese.” Way to go. One more time: “Meet Kim. She is Chinese.” “She is Chinese, not Japanese.” That was tough. Let’s practice it again: “She is Chinese, not Japanese.” That was great. I like the sound of the long “e.” something in English, you can say, “It’s sweet.”
