Introduction: There are multiple development cooperation projects. In this case, it is described a project of cooperation in optic and optometry area, also a parallel investigation to evaluate the prevalence of refractive errors in a population of Mozambique. The project consisted in the creation of an official training course for dispensing opticians. In addition the project included the creation of opticians workshops in the different provinces that had no this type of facilities. The study of prevalence of refractive errors was developed in the country’s capital city, Maputo, specifically in the installations of the “Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde”. The participants of the study were university and pre-university students that live in urban areas Conclusions: With projects in development cooperation in optic and optometry area and studies of prevalence of refractive errors, is possible to fight properly the avoidable blindness.
