Two Point Perspective (Garfield Place, Cincinnati Ohio)

Hand Renderings

All four of these renderings were created during our second quarter of studio class my freshman year. We learned to understand the balance between different kinds of media as well as how to create perspective drawings and site sectionelevatons.

Amberley Village was the location for our second studio design course. The purpose of this particular studio was to learn how to prepare a proper site plan. This city of Amberley was kind enough to allow our class to experiment with an abandoned country club in the middle of a residential community. The rendering to the left is the collection of ideas my group and I would have liked to see in the final plan. Below, is my vision of the institutional area we would have liked to incorporate into the site. It’s a one-point perspective meant to serve as a multi functional building, anything from office space, small shops, or even class rooms.

Pencil Media The Mustang Transition project is one of my favorite works. I created this while in high school using only pencil. I started by selecting a mustang car and the mustang logo. Slowly, I transformed the car into its own logo. This was a very time consuming and tedious project but I’m happy and proud of the outcome.

Skills

Adobe Illustrator This was one of my first experiences using Adobe Illustrator CS4 in my Digital Design Fundamentals course in 2009. The objective was to re-create an image of either a frog or an insect using primarily the pen tool and gradient mesh. The images to the left show the origional image and the gradients I had to create to properly recreate the frog. The image below was the finished product.

Conceptual New Development / Connections Diagram

The first assignment given to me at Ayers Saint Gross Architects was a rendered site plan of Harvard University’s south campus. The conceptual diagram (shown below) was a combination of new development with additional sidewalk connections created by members of my planning team. It was my duty to take this information, input it into AutoCAD, and use Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop to complete an updated site plan (shown to the right).

Ayers Saint Gross Architects assigned me to complete these rendered site plans for the University of Miami located in Coral Gables, Florida. Above shows the existing campus and below shows proposed locations for new development.

Rendered Site Plan This is a rendered site plan of the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute on the Slate Hill Conservation Area located in Front Royal, Virginia. With over 250 acres of undeveloped land the Smithsonian Institute outsourced Ayers Saint Gross Architects to begin development for additional Rhinoceros, cheetah, clouded leopard, and bird, sanctuaries. It was my responsibility to take these designated locations and compile them into a completed site plan.

Niehoff Urban Studio

Fall quarter of 2011, was one of the best studio design courses I had taken while at the University of Cincinnati. Covington, KY was undertaking a new comprehensive plan for the city and outsourced our class to get inspiration. The entire 3rd year Urban Planning class was conjoined with the 5th year Engineering students to collaboratively come up with a plan. Teams were divided into groups of 7-8 people (roughly 2 planners and 5 engineers). The purpose of the Niehoff Studio wasn’t only to impress the faculty of Covington’s planning department, but to learn to work with and around engineers. Our professions will cross paths in many ways in the future and we must learn to understand and work in harmony with them.

Projects Brochures

Ohio River Trail (Ribbon Cutting) Much of my time at Anderson Township was designated to graphics and brochure design. Their department lacked anyone with any type of computer graphic skills and I gladly filled that void. The Township always seemed to have an event going on such as the Garden Tour, Anderson Days, Arbor Day, ribbon cutting ceremonies, etc. and it was my responsibility to represent them.

Anderson Township Business Inventory List (2012) My job wasn’t only to provide graphic skills to the Township but I was also effective in creating databases the Township can utilize for years to come. One of my assignments was to create an excel sheet of all the businesses in the Township and provide its status. The excel sheet exceeded 12 pages long and roughly 600 individual businesses were logged. I provided the parcel number, address, tenant, owner information, total square footage, parcel acreage, and highlighted the vacant buildings in purple.

Anderson Township Comprehensive Plan (Document Covers) This may have been one of my favorite assignments to work on while at Anderson. The Township had just completed a Comprehensive Plan and wanted me to design the cover for it. Some of the images within the cover were from the Township database and others were photos of my own. Personally, I liked the one on the left more but the staff decided to go with option number two. Either way, I was proud of my work and am glad to see my work on such an important piece of documentation that will be around for years.

Map3D Data Linking

University of Wisconsin Whitewater Map3D Document During my time at Ayers Saint Gross Architects we worked with a new program called Map3D created by AutoCAD. It was a learning experience for us all but this program allowed us to link data information from the university to floor plans, designating each and every room/floor/building on campus. Literally every room was given a color and hatch to designate its department and use. The final document consisted of 160 pages with one floor per page. Divided between academic, residential, and auxiliary buildings the university now has the capability to easily access the department and use designation given to any particular room on campus.

The center of the Wooster Pike business district is showing signs of disconnect. With the exception of these few properties, the area provides many of the basic amenities for the community of Mariemont. Shops and stores near the center of the Framework diagram (shown above) and unique recreational activities near the end of the Wasson Way line are promising. By taking advantage of this character the eastern end of the site holds, with businesses such as Hahana Beach and 50 West Brewery, this concept of unique character could be expanded. The location would be ideal for this type of development with connections to the Little Miami Trail, Ohio River Trail, and now the Wasson Way Trail offering the possibility for individuals to park-n-ride to this location and ride for miles in any direction of their pleasing. With the addition of much needed space for restaurants and mixed-use development to share upon the idea of public/private space, easy access to Wasson Way and a plaza area for entertainment opportunities are also provided.

This abandoned steam plant may look dilapidated but its location and character are asking for an opportunity for reuse. This site provides all kinds of potential for a much needed park-n-ride location while also offering ample space for a few small seasonal businesses such as a coffee shop, bike repair shop, and maybe even a bike trail visitor’s center. The site offers fantastic views of the Little Miami River and wouldn’t take much effort to reconnect the site to existing utilities and infrastructure. The proposed site plan (located to the left) will offer plenty of parking and greenspace along the immediate trail to serve any activity of your choosing.
