parking & building access TOUR PARKING

The Bryce Jordan Center was designed to help make show days more efficient for touring acts. The parking lot directly behind the arena (OLS – Orange L South) is approximately 40,000 square feet and can easily accomodate large tours. The lot is fenced-in and includes seven (7) locations for shore power for your busses, etc. There are several overflow lots if needed that are conveniently close to the venue. The arena has a total of three (3) accessible loading docks and two (2) truckways that can be used for loan-in/ out. The majority of touring events use our truckways to pull their trucks directly into the arena minimizing the push to the arena floor. There is approximately a 300 foot push from the loading docks and around a 75 foot push from the truckway to the arena floor.

Public parking

The Bryce Jordan Center has ample and convenient parking located near and around the building. Several Penn State campus parking lots are used on show days for easy access and departure. Patrons also enjoy the convenience of multiple ticket outlets and on-line purchasing. The primary lot for accessible parking spaces is located immediately east of the Bryce Jordan Center. Access to this lot is available off of Porter Road. Overflow accessible parking spaces are available in the northwest corner of Parking Lot 44, located adjacent to the east side of the Jordan Center. Access to Lot 44 is gained off of Porter Road. Overflow accessible parking is also available immediately north of the Bryce Jordan Center in Stadium West. Access to this lot is available off of University Drive. The drop-off and pick-up only area is located in the front turnaround off of Curtain Road. No parking is available at this location during Bryce Jordan Center events. For the convenience and safety of all Jordan Center guests, pick-up will be delayed until pedestrian traffic is clears on Curtin Road at the end of all events.

Building safety The Bryce Jordan Center takes pride in ensuring the safety of all of its guests (both front and back of house). From fire lanes to pyrotechnic regulations, the following are some of the policies the building enforces to maintain a safe environment. Please contact the Bryce Jordan Center for details on each policy to ensure the success of your show.

CABLES AND CORDS

Any cable or cord that is in an area on the floor that is accessible to a guest, employee or member of a visiting tour must be covered by a yellowjacket, cable ramp or some kind of tape in order to minimize a tripping hazard.

Equipment

The use of arena equipment, such as the forklift can only be operated by individuals certified to use that piece of equipment. All equipment should be operated and stored in a safe fashion.

FIRE LANES

Whether for an aisle in front of the house or in a backstage hallway, a six foot fire lane will be strictly enforced.

Fire Extinguishers & Water Fountains

Building fire extinguishers (mostly located on the walls) and arena water fountains must be kept clear. They can not be covered or blocked in any way.

OSHA

The Bryce Jordan Center complies with OSHA regulations.

Pyrotechnics

All shows must contact the Events Coordinator or Production Manager and provide all technical information prior to any rigging or pyrotechnics. All pyrotechnicians must be licensed and are subject to testing by the Fire Marshal for final approval. Failure to provide the necessary equipment will result in the inability to use the pyro during the show. All pyrotechnicians must contact Environmental Health & Safety at (814) 865-6391 prior to installation.

Rigging

Only experienced riggers are permitted on the rigging steel. All riggers are required to use safety cables while rigging. A complete Bryce Jordan Center Safety Manual is available at your request.

State College Spikes

4th Fest

Since 1927, there has been a July 4th celebration in Centre County…in 2004 people witnessed what the Travel Channel called “one of the best fireworks displays in the world.” A celebration like this only happens with a huge commitment from the hundreds of volunteers who work to make the show a huge success each year. The Central PA 4th Fest is a non-profit 501(c) (3) corporation with an all-volunteer board and staff.

Centre County Grange Fair

A family tradition more than 130 years in the making, the Grange Fair is the largest and touted as one of the last encampment fairs in the country. It has grown to almost 1,000 tents--sites passed down to family members as prized possessions, generation after generation; 7,000 exhibitors and more than 1,300 RV’s…the fairgrounds in Centre Hall become a town within itself for the week-long August event. Campers haul in sofas, rugs, lawn decorations…you name it. Competitions are sparked to see whose tent is a true home away from home. This is a must see to believe!

The State College Spikes are a Class-A Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates located next door to the Bryce Jordan Center. Season tickets, group outings and other ticket packages are currently available by calling (877) 99-SPIKES, or by visiting www.statecollegespikes.com. New official team merchandise and souvenirs are also available. Fans visiting State College can shop at Off the Rack Outfitters at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

PENN STATE UNIVERSITY

Twenty-four campuses; 17,000 faculty and staff; 100,000 students; a teaching hospital that provides care to more than a million patients a year; over one-half million active alumni; an online World Campus that empowers anyone to pursue an education—anytime, anywhere; and the largest student-run philanthropic organization on the planet. That’s what makes Penn State ... Penn State. Inspiration meets perspiration ... here. Head meets heart ... here. On our campuses, across our country, around the world.

Mt. Nittany

The word “Nittany” seems to have been derived from a Native American term meaning “single mountain.” Since a number of Algonquian-speaking tribes inhabited central Pennsylvania, the term can’t be traced to one single group. These inhabitants applied this description to the mountain that separates Penns Valley and Nittany Valley, overlooking what is today the community of State College and Penn State’s University Park campus. The first white settlers in the 1700s apparently adopted this term, or a corruption of it, when they named that mountain, i.e., Mount Nittany or Nittany Mountain. Thus by the time Penn State admitted its first students in 1859, the word “Nittany” was already in use.

The Nittany Lion Shrine

The Class of 1940 presented a gift of a Nittany Lion sculpted from a large block of Indiana limestone to Penn State in 1942. The work of noted sculptor Heinz Warneke, the crouching, powerful figure is now the popular Nittany Lion Shrine, located near the Recreation Building on the University Park campus. It is said to be the most photographed site on campus.
