Neil A. Armstrong,

Commander Apollo 11

First words spoken by a man walking on the moon

“That’s one small step for (a) man; One giant leap for Mankind” The first words spoken by a man walking on another heavenly body, received at 9:56 pm local time in Houston (Mission Elapsed Time 109:24:13), as Armstrong stepped off the LM ‘Eagle’ and onto the Moon in the Mare Tranquilitatis (Sea of Tranquility), 20 July 1969.

John ‘Jack’ Swigert, Jr.

Apollo 13 command module pilot

Reporting to houston there was a problem with the service module

“Okay, Houston, we’ve had a problem here” An unknown fault in electrical equipment inside one of the Service Module’s oxygen tanks had produced an explosion during the routine stirring operation, which in turn caused the loss the oxygen in both tanks. The Apollo 13 crew were forced to shut down the Command Module to conserve its batteries and save its oxygen for use in re-entry, and use the Lunar Module’s limited resources as a ‘lifeboat’ during a ‘slingshot’ around the moon and back to Earth. Despite the depravations and challanges of limited power, loss of cabin heat, shortage of potable water, and the critical need to somehow re-rig the carbon dioxide removal system, Apollo 13 returned safely to Earth on 17 April 1970.

Neil A. Armstrong,

Commander Apollo 11

Armstrong reporting to huston that the luna module had landed safe on the moon.

“Houston, Tranquillity Base here, the Eagle has landed”

From the apollo 11 mission Neil Armstrong, transmitting from the Moon, 3:18 p.m. Houston time 20 July 1969. This call and the phrase 'Tranquillity Base' were unknown in advance to NASA.

Title: Moon Series

A series of 12 posters I have designed that promote the 12 full moons of the year. I designed them in a rectangle format because this is the way we look up into the sky. Each poster plays on the obscure names each full name has been given.

OAK MOON

21/12/11 EST: 3:00 PM The Full Moon of December is usually known as the Oak Moon. In Algonquian it is called Cold Moon. Other names are Frost Moon, Long Night’s Moon and Moon Before Yule. Its Sinhala (Buddhist) name is Unduvap Poya. The Full Moon rises around sunset and sets around sunrise, the only night in the month when the Moon is in the sky all night long. The rest of the month, the Moon spends at least some time in the daytime sky.

MOON

15/03/11 EST: 2:40 AM

19/03/11 EST: 2:10 PM

Full Buck Moon: when the new antlers of buck deer push out from their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. It was also often called the Full Thunder Moon, thunderstorms being now most frequent. Sometimes it's also called the Full Hay Moon.

In this month, the ground softens and the earthworm casts reappear, inviting the return of the robins. The more northern tribes knew this as the Full Crow Moon, when the cawing of crows signals the end of winter, or the Full Crust Moon because the snow cover becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night. TheFull Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees, is another variation.

13/08/11 EST: 2:57 PM

Full Sturgeon Moon: When this large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water like Lake Champlain is most readily caught. A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because when the moon rises it looks reddish through sultry haze, or the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon. The occurrence of this full moon on this particular date is rather poor timing for those who enjoy the annual performance of the Perseid meteor shower; this display will peak on this very same day and the brilliant light of the moon will likely wash out all but the very brightest of these swift streaks of light.

Title: What is Space

I designed a 75-page book on the theme what is space. The book contains content that I have found through out my own research into space. The book uses a very limited colour palette to create more of an impact.
