INTRODUCTION Growing up in Oaxaca I had the opportunity to be immerse in the culture, art, textiles, and colors. At age six I knew what I wanted to become, a priest. The idea of wearing the colorful floral robes design had always intrigued me. Later after my conversion to Adventism, I continue to ponder on the idea of becoming a pastor. It wasn’t after dropping form theology school that decided to take some photoshop classes, which lead me to the path of design. During my high school years, I remember that I need to make sure my cloth was iron correctly. A color polo shirt and chino pants and I know for my unique style. Brands work in the same way they have a reason for existing and they tell us a story about. My story is just about to be written.

Maple DIN

Sakar Air was named after Northern goshawk, and the name Sakar comes from arranging the letters of the word goshawk and then followed by the word air. The combination logo uses a Maple typeface, and then capitalizing and italicized the word Sakar in order to give a sense of moving. The hawk is used as the brand mark facing to the right to illustrate that the company is always moving and progressing. The brand color was obtained from the Netherlands’ flag blue, white, and red.

There have been countless book covers for this series. One of those different book covers is this classic cover with minimal illustrations. Each book highlights a character, item, or event of the book by making that illustration black with a layering color pattern background. The color palette is inspired from the original covers from the 1950s. The covers are design to target teenagers readers ages 13-17.

their wardrobe and find their own style. What makes Topstitch stand out from its competitors is that it focuses in delivering topics that the readers are interested in. Topstitch obtain its name from a sewing technique where the line of stitching is designed to be seen from the outside of the garment as a form of decoration. Topstitch’s cover used editorial photography with a colorful background that matches the word Top from the Topstitch logo. The font used for the wordmark is Gentleman 800, a modern and clean typeface just as the magazine. The magazine uses a white space that keeps it clean and gives a minimalistic feel.

El Totopo, located in the heart of San Diego, is inspired by the Oaxaca cuisine. El Totopo is a place where you walk in and feel like you’re at abuela’s house. The use of fresh products of the day and traditional ingredients, and mixed with Abuela’s receipts is what makes it a unique restaurant. This establishment is inspired by the Mixtec culture with a modern view. El Totopo targets middle class income young adults ages 18-30 that might have the extra money to go out and have a good time with their love ones. El Totopo obtained its name from a Oaxaca big and colorful traditional tortilla made from purple corn. The restaurant used a script Memoriam pro headline typeface and a whimsical bull illustration that locks together as a combination logo illustrating a flower shape. The colors are inspired from the traditional colors used in Oaxaca used to paint their homes. El Totopo’s patterns are inspired by the textiles Oaxaca and are used in different applications.

Startgazer is a co-ed religious club founded in the 1970s and is a department of the Baptist world church movement. The club works specifically with the cultural, social and religious education of children and teens ages 10-17. This club is similar to a scouting club, but with a religious emphasis to their activities. Startgazer club focuses on the mental,

physical and spiritual development of children and adolescents. In addition, they provide recreational activities such as camping and community services that teach them how to become good citizens and serve God with their talents. Since the foundation of the club, its main focus has been to bring their members closer to God and this is illustrated in their logo. The name Startgazer comes from the wordplay of explorer, rangers, navigator and their emphasis on the nature aspect of the club. It can also be interpreted as always looking up to heaven. At the center of the logo is a cross that represents their bible teachings. They have gone through lots of changes in their typography but in the late 90s, they chose the Gotham Block typeface to give it more modern feel. The logo’s colors red represents the blood of Jesus and yellow comes from their commitment to remain faithful.
