Central Elementary School is located in suburban Edgewater, MD (approximately 5 miles south of Annapolis) in the Anne Arundel County School District. The school has a population of 683 students in kindergarten through 5th grade (see graph below for demographics). In addition, they also house two special education regional centers: a MINC site (Multiple Intensive Needs Class) and an Autism site, as well as being a full ALPs school (Advanced Learner Program). The media specialist and her half-time media assistant see all 29 classes within the 5-day school week. The media center is on a fixed schedule with each class being seen once a week for 45 minutes, except kindergarten which is only 30 minutes. The media center’s budget is currently $11,152, which is allocated by the county based on $16 per pupil, is used for books and magazines. The county’s main media budget provides for databases and other technology. The collection consists of 12,711 books, 31 databases, a SMARTBoard, Senteos, Airliner, projector and document camera.
