Presidential Address Gree$ngs to the 427th House of Alpha, It is with great pleasure and humility that I write you as the 2012-‐2013 President of the Kappa Theta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated! My name is Michael McGee, and the current chapter and I are eager to afford you with a lens for a greater understanding of the chapter’s past accomplishments, current endeavors, and future developments. Over the past year, we have worked relentlessly and enthusias$cally to surpass and exceed the great expecta$ons that have guided our chapter since its incep$on in 1975. With an ambi$ous vision and commiTed chapter members, we were able to achieve many dis$nc$ons as a chapter, including Outstanding Faculty Rela$ons, Outstanding Collabora$ve Program, Outstanding Fraternity New Member, 2012 Regional Ms. Black and Gold, Tennessee District Scholar Bowl Champions, and two Order of Omega inductees. Kappa Theta has remained a force of exemplary “…We are now faced with scholars, devoted campus leaders, and humble community advocates. the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted I have challenged the chapter to capitalize on our strengths, enhance our deficits, with the fierce urgency of and overcome our weaknesses. Con$nuing our remarkable brotherhood, aligning now. In this unfolding our chapter goals with na$onal requirements, and improving our chapter GPA are conundrum of life and all among our priori$es for this year. You will be able to see our strategic vision for history, there "is" such a how we plan to accomplish our goals and push ourselves forward in the Vanderbilt thing as being too late…” and Nashville communi$es. -‐Mar$n Luther King, Jr Our hope is that this newsleTer will provide a framework for current and graduated chapter members to forge new rela$onships, reconnect with one another, and remember the reasons why we all pledged to the values of manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind. Please contact me or any other chapter members with any ques$ons, concerns, or sugges$ons that you may have for our chapter. I offer deep-‐felt apprecia$on for what you all have done and your unparalleled support as Kappa Theta con$nues to march onward and upward toward the Light! Best, Michael McGee President, Kappa Theta Chapter Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Strategic Plan 2012-‐2013 Vision Be Crucial-‐ Be indispensible to each other. Be essen$al to our campus. Be cri$cal of ourselves. Be decisive in making the best choices. Be vital in our community. Be momentous in programming and campus ini$a$ves. Be insistent in achieving all of our goals, both individually and collec$vely. Top Priori$es: Chapter GPA will be increased by at least .2 points. Each brother must record at least 5 study hours per week that must be completed in one of the rooms we have reserved as “The Alpha Business Room”. Our chapter will maintain a recogni$on wall that will allow all brothers to submit grades from A to B-‐. All events have also been scheduled and planned ahead of $me so brothers can beTer fulfill all the requirements of being a successful student. There will also be a chapter wide reward if we are collec$vely able to reach this goal. Chapter communica=on will be improved in order to best serve produc=vity and achievement. Brothers will check emails on a regular basis and respond to all emails that are Alpha related, even if it is to simply iden$fy that they have read it. Group texts will be used for business, and GroupMe will be used for pleasure. Chapter members will increase their individual community service hours by 20% and collec=ve community service hours by 50 hours. The chapter will conduct one community service event every three to four weeks that is open to the public. Each brother must become a member of one community service organiza$on and fulfill all the service requirements to maintain status as an ac$ve member of that organiza$on. Chapter will take the necessary steps to become more financially stable. Chapter dues have been increased by 300%. The chapter will capitalize on fundraising events in order to raise funds. The chapter will also follow closely to a budget. *With it cos?ng more than $2300 for our chapter to operate na?onally and because our chapter has been in debt for the past three years, if you are able to make a dona?on to the chapter it would be very helpful. Please contact Treasurer Allan Regis at Allan.S.Regis@vanderbilt.edu or President Michael McGee at Michael.N.Mcgee@vanderbilt.edu if you are able to give back.
