Presidential Address Gree$ngs to  the  427th  House  of  Alpha,       It  is  with  great  pleasure  and  humility  that  I  write  you  as  the  2012-­‐2013  President  of   the  Kappa  Theta  Chapter  of  Alpha  Phi  Alpha  Fraternity,  Incorporated!  My  name  is   Michael  McGee,  and  the  current  chapter  and  I  are  eager  to  afford  you  with  a  lens   for  a  greater  understanding  of  the  chapter’s  past  accomplishments,  current   endeavors,  and  future  developments.         Over  the  past  year,  we  have  worked  relentlessly  and  enthusias$cally  to  surpass  and   exceed  the  great  expecta$ons  that  have  guided  our  chapter  since  its  incep$on  in   1975.  With  an  ambi$ous  vision  and  commiTed  chapter  members,  we  were  able  to   achieve  many  dis$nc$ons  as  a  chapter,  including  Outstanding  Faculty  Rela$ons,   Outstanding  Collabora$ve  Program,  Outstanding  Fraternity  New  Member,  2012   Regional  Ms.  Black  and  Gold,  Tennessee  District  Scholar  Bowl  Champions,  and  two   Order  of  Omega  inductees.    Kappa  Theta  has  remained  a  force  of  exemplary   “…We  are  now  faced  with   scholars,  devoted  campus  leaders,  and  humble  community  advocates.       the  fact  that  tomorrow  is       today.  We  are  confronted   I  have  challenged  the  chapter  to  capitalize  on  our  strengths,  enhance  our  deficits,   with  the  fierce  urgency  of   and  overcome  our  weaknesses.    Con$nuing  our  remarkable  brotherhood,  aligning   now.  In  this  unfolding   our  chapter  goals  with  na$onal  requirements,  and  improving  our  chapter  GPA  are   conundrum  of  life  and   all  among  our  priori$es  for  this  year.  You  will  be  able  to  see  our  strategic  vision  for   history,  there  "is"  such  a   how  we  plan  to  accomplish  our  goals  and  push  ourselves  forward  in  the  Vanderbilt   thing  as  being  too  late…”   and  Nashville  communi$es.                          -­‐Mar$n  Luther  King,  Jr   Our  hope  is  that  this  newsleTer  will  provide  a  framework  for  current  and   graduated  chapter  members  to  forge  new  rela$onships,  reconnect  with  one   another,  and  remember  the  reasons  why  we  all  pledged  to  the  values  of  manly   deeds,  scholarship,  and  love  for  all  mankind.    Please  contact  me  or  any  other   chapter  members  with  any  ques$ons,  concerns,  or  sugges$ons  that  you  may  have   for  our  chapter.           I  offer  deep-­‐felt  apprecia$on  for  what  you  all  have  done  and  your  unparalleled   support  as  Kappa  Theta  con$nues  to  march  onward  and  upward  toward  the  Light!       Best,       Michael  McGee   President,  Kappa  Theta  Chapter   Alpha  Phi  Alpha  Fraternity,  Inc.

Strategic Plan 2012-­‐2013 Vision       Be  Crucial-­‐  Be  indispensible  to  each  other.  Be  essen$al  to  our  campus.  Be  cri$cal  of   ourselves.  Be  decisive  in  making  the  best  choices.  Be  vital  in  our  community.  Be   momentous  in  programming  and  campus  ini$a$ves.  Be  insistent  in  achieving  all  of   our  goals,  both  individually  and  collec$vely.         Top  Priori$es:       Chapter  GPA  will  be  increased  by  at  least  .2  points.      Each  brother  must  record  at   least  5  study  hours  per  week  that  must  be  completed  in  one  of  the  rooms  we  have   reserved  as  “The  Alpha  Business  Room”.    Our  chapter  will  maintain  a  recogni$on  wall   that  will  allow  all  brothers  to  submit  grades  from  A  to  B-­‐.      All  events  have  also  been   scheduled  and  planned  ahead  of  $me  so  brothers  can  beTer  fulfill  all  the   requirements  of  being  a  successful  student.  There  will  also  be  a  chapter  wide  reward   if  we  are  collec$vely  able  to  reach  this  goal.         Chapter  communica=on  will  be  improved  in  order  to  best  serve  produc=vity  and   achievement.  Brothers  will  check  emails  on  a  regular  basis  and  respond  to  all  emails   that  are  Alpha  related,  even  if  it  is  to  simply  iden$fy  that  they  have  read  it.  Group   texts  will  be  used  for  business,  and  GroupMe  will  be  used  for  pleasure.       Chapter  members  will  increase  their  individual  community  service  hours  by  20%   and  collec=ve  community  service  hours  by  50  hours.  The  chapter  will  conduct  one   community  service  event  every  three  to  four  weeks  that  is  open  to  the  public.  Each   brother  must  become  a  member  of  one  community  service  organiza$on  and  fulfill  all   the  service  requirements  to  maintain  status  as  an  ac$ve  member  of  that  organiza$on.         Chapter  will  take  the  necessary  steps  to  become  more  financially  stable.  Chapter   dues  have  been  increased  by  300%.    The  chapter  will  capitalize  on  fundraising  events   in  order  to  raise  funds.  The  chapter  will  also  follow  closely  to  a  budget.         *With  it  cos?ng  more  than  $2300  for  our  chapter  to  operate  na?onally  and  because   our  chapter  has  been  in  debt  for  the  past  three  years,  if  you  are  able  to  make  a   dona?on  to  the  chapter  it  would  be  very  helpful.  Please  contact  Treasurer  Allan  Regis   at  Allan.S.Regis@vanderbilt.edu  or  President  Michael  McGee  at   Michael.N.Mcgee@vanderbilt.edu  if  you  are  able  to  give  back.
