Fantastic 4,000 runners means we need YOU! Last year’s race saw more just short of 3,650 runners register to take part, crowds of people lining the streets to cheer them on and a team of more than 70 volunteers making sure everything ran smoothly on the day. The end result? Around £100,000 being raised for a host of charities as well as event organisers Joining Jack. This year we want to break all previous records and hit a fantastic 4,000 runners so we are going to need even more volunteers to help us pull this off. If you or someone that you know would be interested in helping us on the day, please get in touch. E-mail us at info@wigan10k.co.uk

Last Year’s Race testimonials "A brilliant event! It is now the highlight of the year in Wigan" Donna Hall, Chief Executive, Wigan Council

"This is how to organise a 10k and should used as a blueprint for all other towns" runner, David Howard

"The best organised 10k I have ever known, well done! It’s great to feel part of it" runner, Anthony Whitby

"Again it was my absolute pleasure to be involved. The team I brought on the day also thoroughly enjoyed it and have already expressed a wish to be involved next year." Lewis McAndrew, director, Fylde Coast Running

The 2017Route The race route for 2017 is identical to last year’s route which had been tweaked to give what we think will be a much faster course. Our fabulous 4,000 runners will once again be starting on Market Street and making their way towards the DW Stadium via Parson’s Walk, Park Road, Woodhouse Lane, Scott Lane and Stadium Way. They will then get the opportunity to tackle the 100m finishing straight at Robin Park before looping through the Martland Mill area and back through Mesnes Park (minus the much maligned zigzag) to finish back on Market Street. There will be a water station at the DW Stadium, approximately 4km into the race, and a second water station in Mesnes Park. There will also be first aid support at the start/finish line and throughout points on the route. Please encourage your friends and family to come along and cheer you on. The atmosphere around the route has been amazing for the past three years, and we want it to be even better this time!

About Joining Jack Joining Jack, the partner charity of the Wigan 10k, was founded in 2012 by Andy and Alex Johnson following the devastating news that their son, Jack, had been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This progressive and currently incurable muscle-wasting disorder is one of the most common fatal genetic conditions worldwide, affecting approximately one in 3,500 boys. The money that Joining Jack raises goes to help fund crucial research into the development of a treatment for DMD. For more information on Joining Jack, please visit joiningjack.org, or find us on: @alljoinjack www.facebook.com/joiningjack www.instagram.com/joiningjack

A Parent’s Perspective “Failing a medical breakthrough, Jack's life will follow a path pre-determined by his condition. He will no longer be able to walk by the time he reaches adolescence and will lose the use of every muscle in his body thereafter. Eventually his heart and lungs will fail and he will die. There are no words to describe the utter devastation felt upon hearing that your child’s life will be cut short because there is no cure. Currently there is very little awareness of DMD, and research into finding a possible treatment is drastically underfunded. However, over the past few years, with help from charities around the world, clinical trials have begun to take place with encouraging results. This spurred us on to set up our own charity, to help move things forward for Jack and others like him. We cannot sit back and watch Jack ravaged by this condition if there is any chance that we can make his future a more positive one.” Alex and Andy Johnson
