Eldad Boker, Ed.D.

Professor, College of Hospitality Management Professor Eldad Boker, Ed.D., who joined JWU’s College of Hospitality Management in 1986, teaches a variety of hospitality courses at the university. Most recently he was the lead developer of the Master of Science degree program in Global Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development. Boker, who speaks three languages and has visited 75 countries, worked in the global tourism industry before joining JWU. As a faculty member, he shares his industry knowledge and experiences with his students. “I love the educational encounters with students and the ability to have an impact on their intellectual development,” says Boker. A Certified Hospitality Educator, Boker earned a Doctor of Education degree in Tourism Management and Human Resource Development from George Washington University. 2

Master of Science in Global Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development Strategize and develop viable programs for sustainable tourism and economic development. Through coursework and real-world projects, you’ll gain comprehensive knowledge of the newest tourism trends: shared service providers such as Airbnb and Lyft, the experience economy orchestrating memorable events as products, and local and global opportunities for development. When you graduate, you’ll be prepared for a variety of careers in diverse sectors and industries including travel and tourism organizations, government agencies, nonprofit and economic development organizations, consultancies, educational institutions and the private sector. This 10-course program will prepare and equip you to become a global citizen and future leader in the high-growth field of sustainable tourism.

As a student you’ll learn to Formulate strategies to attract and retain market share and promote social and economic development objectives for tourism destinations. Communicate effectively with industry stakeholders such as policymakers, members of the private sector and the general public. Critically evaluate contemporary management and leadership strategies in relation to the global tourism industry and sustainable business practices. Patrick Leary, Ed.D.

Associate Professor, College of Hospitality Management Associate Professor Patrick Leary, Ed.D., has a professional background and expertise rooted in sports marketing, sponsorship sales, event management, new media literacy and athletic administration. He has also worked in brand management for NERF & Sports Action Brands at Hasbro Inc., and in athletic marketing for Providence College, Boston College, and Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. Leary was the lead faculty member in developing the Master of Science degree program in Sport Leadership. He has also created various experiential learning opportunities for students, including the development of the annual SEEM (Sports, Entertainment & Event Management) Leadership Conference held at the Providence Campus. A Certified Hospitality Educator, Leary holds a Doctorate in Education from Northeastern University. His academic research focuses on the commercialization of intercollegiate athletes.
