Many people who are outwardly confident harbor public speaking fears deep in their hearts. The moment they face a situation where they have to address an audience, however small the audience is, they will become uncomfortable. Some may pretend to be confident and will think of a way of wriggling out of this situation. Others will show their fears openly. You can see panic writ large on their faces. So, if you harbor public speaking fears in the deepest regions of your heart, there is nothing abnormal about it. You are like several others. It may interest you to know that the fear of public speaking has been ranked the most dreaded of all fears. Even the fear of death ranks only second! Is speaking before an audience worse than facing death? Reason will tell you that this cannot be so. But reality says that this is so, at least in the perception of many people. You have two options. You can live with these fears and safely avoid public speaking situations. And if ever you are confronted with one, you can use your ingenuity to come out of it. Or you can take some action to purge your heart of this negative feeling. Driving the fear of public speaking out is not only easier than living with it for your entire life but is also rewarding. You will discover a new power and will have tremendous satisfaction by doing something which you have all along feared. How can you free yourself from this fear. There are scores of ways of doing it. I will outline one quick and easy approach. Just observe some of the people who are comfortable with public speaking. Compare yourself with them. You will find that you are better than each and every person at least in one way. You can be more fluent than A. You can give out better content than B. Your voice will sound better than C's. You have a better sense of humor than D. Yet, while A, b, C and D are making it big by standing on the dias and delivering their speeches, you are just observing them wondering how they do it. The only difference between you and them is that they have ventured into it while you have allowed your reflexes to hold you back. You just need to take one bold step. Grab the next opportunity that comes your way and make your presentation. It may or may not turn out to be good. But in either case, you will feel good about yourself. If you do well, you will become confident and keep doing it again and again. If you fumble, you can develop an urge to do it better the second time.


Public speaking fears are real. But you can overcome public speaking fears by taking a plunge.
