This project used iterative physical models to study the way materials are altered by environmental occupants including light, soil, moisture, vegetation, and debris. This research resulted in the design of eight final material assemblies and subsequently eight abandoned spaces. The project created spaces that enticed the senses through engaging the eyes, ears, nose, and body. During the review, users were invited into a dramatic setting, where they were encouraged to touch, smell, and apply moisture to our material assemblies. These haptic interactions continued throughout the discussion as the unfamiliar became familiar. Users relished this experience of novelty, interest, and becoming familiar. Architecture that is tactile, smelly, acoustic, moist, and thermal we learned will intimately engage users.
