This is one of the most popular cans to get these days. They are naturally shiny, easy to keep clean, and are easily recognizable as being a garbage can. I prefer this kind if its going to be out in public. This kind is great if you need to conceal it or want to use a compact space. I use these when I want to put one inside of a floor cabinet or something like that. This is an inexpensive option and they are great for bathrooms too. These are the latest in new technology. As their name implies, you do not need to touch them in order to open them.

They open by themselves using a motion sensor when your hand comes near its lid. These will obviously be your most expensive type but they are very functional. If you like not having to use your hand or foot to open the lid, then this one may be right up your alley. If you want something simple, a small plastic bag trash can is for you. It costs $70 and is perfect for your kitchen countertop or in your pantry. It looks great and is very strong; the only downside is its price, but if you're in the market for a high-end, nonplastic trash can, you're going to be spending around this much anyway.

On the other end of the spectrum is the extra large flip top bin. This thing is so big that it's almost commercial; it's big enough to easily accommodate two families' trash. Made of solid oak, it costs $400 but looks great and is incredibly sturdy. If you're going for a log cabin look, this trash can can be just the thing to deal with your waste while sticking with the dĂŠcor. There are a number of non-Amish wooden trash cans that also look excellent. Many of these are deliberately kitschy, with themes like "fruit" and "Wild West," so they may not be the best idea for your kitchen. However, if you have a holiday house or are outfitting a child's room, these may be just the thing - kitsch definitely does have its place, and these trash cans fill it with aplomb.
