LABOUR NEWS JOHN LYONS TD Dublin North West Spring 2012
LANESBOROUGH PARK COMMUNITY DAY The first Community Games events in Lanesborough Park will take place on Saturday 21st April at 1pm (please see below). To make sure the park is completely clean before the events, I have organised another Park Clean Up Day for Saturday morning April 21st from 10.30am to 12.30pm. The last clean-up day was a great community effort and we removed well over a dozen large bags of rubbish from the park in the space of about two hours. The park looked very well afterwards and I believe a similar effort this year will prepare the park for use during the upcoming summer months. Bags, gloves and litter pickers will be provided and I will arrange to have the collected material removed by Fingal County Council. All are welcome to attend and I look forward to speaking with you on the day. I will also be inviting the local Community Gardaí along again to attend the clean-up day. At the last day, the community Gardaí spoke to local residents about policing issues in the area such as anti-social behaviour in the park. It was a good opportunity for residents to meet their local Gardaí and to speak about issues of concern in the area and this year will provide the same opportunity. If you wold like to take part this time around or ask about any other issue please feel free to contact me on 618 3280 or firstname.lastname@example.org

CHARLESTOWN SHOPPING CENTRE UPDATE Work is planned to start in the coming months on the second phase of Charlestown Shopping Centre. This will involve the provision of a cinema and a leisureplex. These works will take between 12 and 18 months to complete and will be a major addition to the area. Work is on-going in relation to the new KFC and McDonalds at the shopping centre which will be opening by early May.
LOCATION OF BOTTLE BANKS I have been examining proposals for locating bottle banks area within the Charlestown area with Fingal County Council. I have stressed the importance of a suitably located site and that residents should be consulted on the proposed location.
COMMUNITY GARDAÍ CONTACT DETAILS Lanesborough/Mea kstown Community Garda í:
I am working so firm proposals are brought to residents for community consultation in the very near future. The preferred location for the bottle banks is beside Lanesborough Park but other options are being considered. I will continue to notify residents when more information is available very soon.

JUNCTION OF THE R104 ST MARGAGET’S ROAD & THE JAMESTOWN ROAD Fingal County Council recently submitted an application for funding to the National Transportation Authority to put in traffic lights at this junction. I had asked Fingal to carry out a speed survey on the R104 due to the amount of traffic incidents arising from speeding. This survey formed the basis for their funding application and I have also written to the NTA to support Fingal’s application. Installing traffic lights would greatly improve road safety at this junction and I hope to see these works proceed as soon as possible.
