Portraits Portraiture, simply put, is the photographing of people. Taking pictures of people may seem easy, but portraiture is one of the most challenging areas of photography.

Portraits We all have photographs of ourselves that we do not like for one reason or another. Why is it that most people will say that they "hate" to have their picture taken? In my opinion, it seems that our perception of ourselves does not always match that of the cameras', and that can be uncomfortable. When people notice that they are about to have there picture taken most will either hide their face or "mug" for the camera. These behaviors can protect us from the often unpleasant prospect of actually "looking" at ourselves.

Portraits Your charge on this assignment is to make a portrait that is more than a picture of a person, but a portrait that helps us look at an individual. Portraiture is not always making someone "look good", but simply, the art of helping someone to be "looked" at.

Portraits Remember that a portrait doesn't have to be a picture of just a face...

Portraits Remember that a portrait doesn't have to be a picture of just a face... but it does need to be of a human being!

Portraits You may want to shoot with a large aperture as to draw attention to your subject's face. Remember back to the Depth-of-Field assignment and control the light to make your picture look like you want it.
