JOHN JAIRO GONZALEZ Architecture Portfolio

ABOUT ME I was born and raised in Cali, Colombia where I lived until the age of ten, when my parents decided to migrate to the United States. Growing up, I did not always know that I wanted to become and architect. The process that I went through to arrive at this revelation and career choice, was a bit unusual. Throughout much of my life, I frequently jumped into the unknown, taking risks, but always with a lot of dedication and determination to achieve my goals. Now, I look back on those times and I realize how much I have grown, not only in this field, but as a person. During my years of undergraduate education at the University of Miami, I have learned that it is essential to understand a site within its context. Architecture, impacts not only the way practitioners design, but also transforms how people interact and engage with public spaces based on their functionality, innovation and access. PACKARD HOTEL

The proposal was to preserve the facade of the once Packard Hotel in Paseo del Prado, Havana. The boutique hotel has one hundred rooms, commercial shops, cafes and restaurants. As a preservation design studio I also wanted to bring back the idea of the Packard automobiles and create a Packard exhibition that ties back to the original founders of the hotel.
