John Howes' Qualifications and Experience I was born and raised in Cedar City, Utah. I graduated from SUU in 1998 then moved to West Valley City. In 2005, my family moved to Fruit Heights where we continue to live, work, and go to school. In high school and college, I worked at Taco Time in Cedar City where I gained skills, experience, and passion for food service. Those things have stayed with me through the years in different career paths. I have always enjoyed serving others be it food, technical, or religious, 20 years of my life has been spent in those areas. Today I feel I am capable of successfully managing and operating the cafe at the Davis Park Golf Course. I love going to work and play at the golf course because of the current staff and atmosphere thus making the choice easy to invest my time in that endeavor. I started work at the Davis Park Golf Course cafe in April, 2012. Hearing there might be some opportunities to work at the cafe, I contacted Rebecca Findlay to see if she had openings. She is a neighbor and fellow ward member in my Church so she already knew me thus granting me the chance to train with her to cover some morning hours. Rebecca is the best manager I've ever had so it was very easy to feel comfortable and welcome behind the counter. I quickly learned the menu, policies, practices, and standards she put in place and will continue those same values. I appreciate the relationships she has made with golfers, golf course employees, and cafe employees. It won't be the same without her but my goal is to create the same strong relationships with those same people to keep their business. Currently I have a business in Utah called Rig Rentals wherein I lease industrial equipment to oilfield services in the Uintah Basin. I could set up a new business under this name and file a DBA; however I would prefer to start a new company for the cafe. As mentioned in my cover letter, I intend to create a new company (an LLC or sole proprietor), attain the insurance and licenses required, and be ready to take over operations on June 7, 2013. I will continue to employ as many of the current employees as would like to stay. They are reliable, customer service minded, friendly, and knowledgeable. I would be at the cafe Monday through Friday from open until early to mid afternoons with another crew member working the afternoon to close. Weekends would be staffed by those who want to work those hours. Janet Clark, crew members who want to work, and myself would staff weddings, catered events, and tournaments. My relevant food service experience includes work at the Cedar City Taco Time for two years, the previous year at the cafe, and other temporary help at various county fairs and events. I have 15 years customer service experience as a Senior field service technician for Printelligent for 6 years, field service technician for SkyWest airlines for almost 5 years, and 4 to 5 years customer service at Cwick Copy Center in Cedar City. I have a Bachelor of Arts from SUU in Broadcast Communication and last year passed the CompTIA A+ certification test. If passion for one's job has any bearing on a person's qualifications, I will list it here. As mentioned before, I have fallen in love with the cafe and working with the people there. From day one I have been welcomed by the golf course staff as one of their own and part of the team. It is so enjoyable to go to work and know there are others who feel the same. I love being of service, making a meal that looks and tastes good, and being a small part of others' hobbies. In fact, I bought my first set of custom golf clubs last year and established a handicap. Over the year I managed to reduce my handicap by two strokes and participated in the Men's Association. Golf has become my new hobby and if I can help others to have an enjoyable experience on the golf course, I will do all in my power to make that happen.
