WETLANDS HOUSE CRITIC: William Tilson SITE: Calhoun County, Florida The Wetlands House is comprised of two interdependent structures: a low space for entertaining and a narrow tower for privacy and sleep. It occupies a sloping site facing a stretch of wetlands in Calhoun County, Fl. The house works with Florida’s hot/humid climate with a series of passive strategies. The house minimizes enclosed, conditioned space to 800 sq. feet. Living areas are kept low and thoroughly shaded, but open to cross-ventilation. The direction and control of water and on-site runoff retention are fundamental drivers of the design.
