“AWAKE THE DJERBIAN DREAM” represents the aim to preserve the still existing but degrading beauty back of the island Djerba. This proposal aims to connect the site of Lella Hadhria with the rest of the island in a proper way to preserve the nature and revive the lost habits back. That means, that Lella Hadhria is the only place that still exists in a more or less untouched way. The abandoned hotel in the site will be reused as a cultural center which will attract interested people of all ages. All over the island should be routes of bus lines, bike trails that connect Lella Hadhria with the rest of the island culturally. The benefit of that proposal is to distribute the mass tourism in different spots over the island that will grow in a sustainable way. This will attract tourists to discover the island in its traditional beauty and learn more about the traditional way of living in Djerba. Accordingly, Djerba will become a unique touristic point different from other touristic places.

On the natural level, the main goal is to reactivate a stable ecosystem on “Lella Hadhria” and preserve it for the future. Further, a surrounding environmental park with local vegetation and international art works serves as a buffer to protect the natural heart of the site: the lagoon. More importantly, people will be addressed and taught about the natural risks and opportunities that Djerba is facing. Landscape interventions on two thematic plazas including “follies” will raise awareness on water and waste management. A proposed solar desalination plant will provide people with fresh filtered potable water. Four transparent columns filled with recycled materials; glass, paper, plastic and metal will seem to be a sculpture. In fact, they are some kind of silos for the materials reused in four special workshops that will produce recycled materials for the artistic project such as textiles out of plastic. Children are specially addressed in the form of a new playground at the beach. On this playground, kids can pump up ground water and irrigate the plants around them. At the same time they learn in a playful way about the pumping process and the importance of water in Djerba. Accordingly, kids might discuss the optimum usage of water and explain it to their parents.
ﻻ ﻳﻬﺪف اﳌﻘﱰح إﱃ اﻟﺘﻤﺴﻚ ﺑﺎﻟﺜﻘﺎﻓﺔ اﻟﻘﺪميﺔ وﻋﺮض اﻟﺠﺰﻳﺮة وﺣﻴﺎة ﺳﻜﺎﻧﻬﺎ اﱃ ﻣﺰار ﺳﻴﺎﺣﻲ ﻣﻔﺘﻮح ﺑﻞ ﻳﻬﺪف اﱃ زﻳﺎدة وﻋﻲ ﻛﻞ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺴﻜﺎن واﻟﺴﻴﺎح ﻧﺤﻮ ﺗﺮاث ﺟﺮﺑﺔ اﻟﻐﻨﻲ واﳌﻤﻴﺰ ﺛﻘﺎﻓﻴﺎ ﻣام .ﺳﻴﻌﺰز ﺗﺒﺎدل اﻟﺘﺠﺎرب اﻟﺜﻘﺎﻓﻴﺔ اﳌﺘﻨﻮﻋﺔ وﻳﺨﻠﻖ ﻫﻮﻳﺔ ﻟﻠﺠﺰﻳﺮة ﺑﺸﻜﻞ ﺻﺤﻲ ﻏري ﻣﻔﺘﻌﻞ أو ﻣﻔﺮوض ﺟﻮﻻت ﺛﻘﺎﻓﻴﺔ،وﻳﺘﻢ ذﻟﻚ ﻋﻦ ﻃﺮﻳﻖ اﻗﱰاح ﻣﺴﺎرات ﻟﺠﻮﻻت ﻣﺘﻨﻮﻋﺔ اﻷﻫﺪاف (ﺟﻮﻻت ﻃﺒﻴﻌﻴﺔ اﻟﺦ ) متﺮ ﻋﲆ ﻧﻘﺎط ﻣﻤﻴﺰة ﰲ اﻧﺤﺎء اﻟﺠﺰﻳﺮة ﺑﺎﻻﺿﺎﻓﺔ إﱃ ﺗﻮﻓري ﻧﻈﺎم ﺑﺤﺚ ﻟﻠﻤﺼﺎرﻋﺔ واﺳﻊ.… ﻋﲆ ﺟﺎﻧﺐ. اﻟﻨﻄﺎق ﺳﻴﺴﻬﻞ وﻳﺤﻔﻆ اﻟﺰاﺋﺮﻳﻦ إﱃ اﻟﺘﺠﻮل ﰲ اﻟﺠﺰﻳﺮة وزﻳﺎرة ﻫﺬه اﻟﻨﻘﺎط اﻟﺜﻘﺎﻓﻴﺔ ﻣﺼﺎﺣﺐ ﺑﺎﳌﴩوع. اﻓﺘﺘﺎح اﳌﺮﻛﺰ اﻟﺜﻘﺎﰲ اﳌﻘﱰح ﰲ ﻟﻼ ﺣﴬﻳﺔ ﺳﻴﻌﻤﻞ ﻛﻤﺤﻔﺰ ﺛﻘﺎﰲ ﻣﻬﻢ،آﺧﺮ اﻟﻔﻨﻲ ﻟﻠﻤﻮاد ﻣﻌﺎدة اﻟﺘﺪوﻳﺮ واﻟﺬي ﺳﻴﺘﻀﻤﻦ ﺳﻠﺴﻠﺔ ﻣﻦ اﳌﻨﺎﺳﺒﺎت اﻟﺘﻲ ﺳﻴﺘﻢ ﻓﻴﻬﺎ دﻋﻮة ﻓﻨﺎﻧني وﺳﻴﺘﻢ ﻋﺮض ﻫﺬه.ﻋﺎﳌني ﻟﻴﻘﺪﻣﻮا ﻋﺮوض ﺗﺘﻨﺎول اﳌﺸﺎﻛﻞ اﳌﺠﺘﻤﻌﻴﺔ ﺑﺈﺳﺘﺨﺪام ﻣﻮاد ﻣﻌﺎدة اﻟﺘﺪوﻳﺮ . اﻷﻋامل اﻟﻔﻨﻴﺔ ﰲ " اﳌﺘﻨﺰه اﻟﺒﻴﺌﻲ ” ﻣام ﺳﻴﺴﻠﻂ اﻻﺿﻮاء ﻧﺤﻮ ﺟﺮﺑﺔ
Djerba is rich with cultural heritage. Accordingly, both, locals and tourists should be aware of the uniqueness of their place. The goal is not to insist on preserving an old-fashioned culture, as if the island and its inhabitants are exhibited as some kind of an open-air museum. However, by increasing awareness of the cultural heritage and creating intercultural experiences with countless different visiting cultures where a strong and healthy cultural identity will be reawakened. Proposing thematic trails will highlight the many points of interest on the island where people are motivated to pay a visit. Furthermore, an island wide way-finding-system will guide and inform visitors about unique places.The inauguration of the proposed culture and community center on the site of “Lella Hadhria” will work as an important cultural catalyst. Moreover, a recycling art project which deals with serious social problems in an artistic way is proposed where International artists will be invited to work with recycled materials. The outputs will be regular artworks exhibited inside the proposed environmental park. Accordingly, Djerba will be under the spotlight of the world of art.

The urban sprawl in Djerba is unique and more than worth to preserve. On one hand, there are different sizes of urban units. On the other hand, there is the rural agglomeration in several “Menzels”. In order to avoid an uncontrolled urban growth, clear regulations will be decided upon. These rules will define what areas are kept rural and green and where the urban growth is allowed. Furthermore, they support the traditional way of construction in order to have truly authentic cityscapes. By this way, the existing sites stay independent and individual. On the rural scheme, a tax reductions will benefit investors who are planning to revitalize traditional constructions. As on the entire island, the reinforcement of the infrastructure will improve mobility which will lead to a better connection between the rural parts and the individual centers.

The proposal „awake the Djerbian dream “aims for a sustainable economic growth for the years to come. The goal is to create a four season’s tourism, attracting a diverse and wide clientele. Two main measures can by defined, one on the larger scale and another on the specific inversions to the site of „lella hadhria“that work as catalyst for the entire island. On the larger scale the improvement of existing infrastructure is granted by introducing cycle ways and a net of public transportation. This will embrace mobility for both locals and tourists thus, raise the living quality and stimulate the private sector. Beside a new mobility, a modern convention center guides business travelers out of their hotels. The existent hotels will be interested to finance this center, attracting more guests all over the year. This way the communal and culture investments can by laterally financed. In addition, the proposed recycling art project introduces the new segments of cultural and eco-tourism.
