[Master thesis of Ioannis Anagnostopoulos and Angeliki Lampropoulou at Chalmers Architecture, 2015]
The industrialisation of Sweden during the late 19th-early 20th century has left vacant industrial complexes inside the urban fabric of many cities. Those sites, although often regarded as urban voids, have great potential to become redevelopment nodes. This master thesis focuses on how to reuse industrial building stock, aiming for a sustainable transformation that can adapt to potential future changes.
M-verkstaden, a part of the well known industrial complex of SKF in Göteborg, was selected as the study area. The thesis proposes how the building, that will soon be evacuated, can be reused as an active social intersection between the city and the neighbouring river landscape.
