I have recently finished my degree at Massey University in New Zealand, completing a Bachelor of Design, Majoring in Fashion (Hons). I am interested in high end ready to wear conceptual fashion, pushing the boundaries in a relatively new area of genderless fashion. Through my designs I attempt to create thought and discussion mainly around philosophical concepts. I believe design is one of the strongest forms of communication, so I use fashion as a means to question and educate. My general design aesthetic is minimal with clean lines. I find this allows my creativity to be expressed in other areas such as styling and quirky illustrations, which provides another outlet for my imagination.

anonymous: a uniformed freedom is based on the tensions that exist between the individual and the collective, and the different freedoms both can experience. I have tried to understand how to promote collectivism, which brings comfort, inclusion and strength, while still keeping the individual relevant. This has led to an interpretation of a new state, which is based around community, education and action. The goal for this concept was to challenge the norms of social constructs and open up a path for critical analysis. I hope anonymous is a representation of the questions humans encounter in regards to individuality. I hope this collection will educate.

The initial inspiration for this collection was conceived after the Christchurch earthquake struck in February 2011. Aesthetic reference is derived from natural and earth related shapes, however the concept was further developed to include and be mainly focussed around mental illnesses, especially those triggered by traumatic events. I was interested in how events affect memory and thought, and aimed to create a snapshot collection based heavily on depth and texture of emotions.

Cocoon was a year long research project by Textile Designer Sophie Rzepecky. The garments were designed and made by myself to incorporate Sophie’s textiles into a fashion product. “This film explored an idea that came out of the artist’s personal feelings surrounsing light and darkness. By cocooning the wearer with a cover of soft mohair and stretch cotton, the textile diffuses the form of the wearer, covering the mouth and nose only allowing the eyes to be seen over the top. The textile becomes a mechanism of protection, of safety in a dark space.” - Sophie Rzepecky

Before Communication was a digital textile project based around the general theme of man and the machine. Specifically addressing technology and communication, the prints derive from the Ancient Egyptian language and modern communication tools. The images are all hand drawn and the prints produced entirely on Illustrator.
