TABOO

mental illness There is a widespread problem of social stigma, stereotypes, and prejudice against people living with mental illness. We are constantly told that life should be a certain way, and that if anything does not conform to this delusional standard, it is viewed as abnormal, thus creating a taboo. This false idea that every human being should resemble what is being shown in the media is the spectacle— the concrete inversion of life and the fragmented views of reality that accompany it. In actuality, a large number of human beings suffer from mental illness or live with someone who has a mental illness. This is why the subject should not be a taboo, and why people need to start breaking society’s version of reality in order to uncover the truth.
