Cheryl Martin presents

The global economy is a mess. The rich have got richer, the middle’s squeezed tight, and the poor are being dragged downwards.

Who Wants to Live Forever? is about one woman’s lifelong love for Billie Holiday’s music, for the stars, and for her lost baby brother. It’s about camping holidays and friendship; about learning how to sing, so that you can sing to the stars; about loss and memory, and turning memory into myths of Amazon princesses sailing the skies. About falling stars, and why we all love them.

Oh Whistle, and I’ll Come to you, My Lad – a tale of nocturnal horror on the Suffolk coast. It is beautifully complemented by The Ash Tree, a story of witchcraft and vengeance down the generations.

A young archaeologist is haunted and hunted by the guardian of an ancient treasure. It is paired here with Lost Hearts, among the first stories the author wrote, which offers one of his most memorable villains, the predatory scholar Mr Abney.

Townsend Productions presents

ROUSE, YE WOMEN MARY MACARTHUR AND THE WOMEN CHAINMAKERS A FOLK OPERA BY NEIL GORE AND JOHN KIRKPATRICK

In 1910 the women chainmakers of Cradley Heath focussed the world’s attention on the plight of Britain’s low-paid women workers involved in the ‘home-working sweated industries’, hammering out chain-links in sheds in the backyards of their homes with their babies and children for 5 shillings (25p) for a 50hour week.

Led by the charismatic union organiser and campaigner, Mary Macarthur, hundreds of women laid down their tools to strike for a living wage. Through rousing traditional songs and moving ballads, Townsend Productions reveals the horrors of sweated labour, Mary Macarthur’s stunning national campaign to expose the perpetrators of this appalling employment, the universal sympathy for the workers, the flood of donations, and the events that led to a final victory.

Featuring an impressive cast and accompanied by a live Orchestra numbering over 30 musicians.

Carmen is the original freespirited femme fatale entangled in a complicated and treacherous love triangle. Widely acclaimed for the brilliance of its melodies, Bizet skilfully charts the emotions and suffering of his characters with the thrill of fiery passion, jealousy and violence of 19th century Seville.

Verdi’s undisputed masterpiece about a high-society courtesan with a heart of gold, who sacrifices everything for the man she loves, will transport you to the splendour and gaiety of mid-19th century Paris. A deeply moving opera overflowing with emotion and containing moments of pure genius, La Traviata is an unforgettable, powerful experience.
