The Design of Open Spaces Between Piacenza and the Trebbia Valley

Politecnico di Milano / School of Architecture and Society Territorial Campus of Piacenza 06

workshop in politecnico di milano

The aim of the workshop was to propose a master plan for re-organizing the open spaces in the Trebbia Valley district, an historic corridor between Piacenza and the Liguria Region. Particular attention was paid to environmental issues and open spaces, in order to reach high levels of livability and integration among the urban requirements and the distinctive traits of this valley. The Italian village of Marsaglia, was chosen for this study. It lies on the banks of Trebbia River, and developed along the state road.

The analysis of the open spaces in Marsaglia focuses on the entire extent of the highway that crosses through the village (SS45): circulation for pedestrians, treatment of public spaces, and green leisure; creating lines connecting the core of the old building and the river on the open spaces between the strips of old buildings and new housing infrastructure; regeneration of the thoroughfare. Organized by: Landscape Architect Dr.Paola Pucci and Architect Dr. Marco Mareggi 07

THE DESIGN OF OPEN SPACES BETWEEN PIACENZA AND THE TREBBIA VALLEY The principal objective, was to requalify the urban fabrics and connecting it to the riverfront. Requalify the existing road, and create a new relationship between the center and the river – visual memory in connection to the two main factors of attraction and opportunity of Marsaglia. Rehabilitation of river front, cleaning the landscape (deactivated factories across the river front), organization of existing activities, as well as, defining new spaces with new programs (food & beverage businesses, fig.1 study drawings;
