summary profile Jo達o Pedro Sousa, did of his academic time a period of relentless quest in constructive details, construction methods and structures, the practical results culminated in models those can transform ideas drawn in paper in playable and visible realities. Never ending test models and simulations fix what were themselves a conceptual exercise and that was the way of get close of architecture since early. At the last year of graduation, his final project is nominated to represent the university at SECIL Award, national student competition in 2009. Collaborated as professional-intern at Santa-Rita Arquitectos architecture offi ce, working in large scale projects and competitions, on an intensive building refurbishment project and helped on national and international (Paris, France) office exhibitions. In 2011 got in charge of his first project as professional, a beach house on the west portuguese coast (currently in progress). Among other outstanding competences is a high skilled worker in draw software Autodesk AutoCAD and Graphisoft ArchiCAD, Adobe Suite Collection: Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop; and Microsoft Software. Along the academic period and the professional experience reached good levels of knowledge concerning the areas of Landscape Architecture, Urbanism, Construction Methods, Materials, Static and Structures.

FACULDADE ARQUITECTURA LISBOA practical work intro 7.500sqm of full wood building, structure, walls, window frames, stairs, growing in the midle of the green corridor. A laminar box lifted from the ground by long beam legs, allows green corridor pass below it. Chose wood as construction material increase the challenge to creat a building structure that talks by itself. Take a step straight to the unknown was the way to get stuck and persuit a final result.

SUSTAINABILITY ECOLOGY AND BIODIVERSITY

LOCATION green corridor Place the green corridor crossing the urban plan proposal on it major axis, origin a space oriented at east/west, made with the intention of create a public space dimensioned for answer citizens needs but at first ecological needs, as an extension of the most important green space existent at the city, the Natural Park of Monsanto, with wild life animal, richness of fresh air and outdoor sports insfrastructures. At east, connected with the historic EduardoVII Park, a tipical classic field garden, result of a further north extension of the first green walk boulevard in Portugal history, nowadays Avenida da Liberdade at downtown. The city culture shouldn´t have yet tasted the pleasure of nature contemporaneity, what explain not care about bring it more close to everyone. The option is place the new building in the green corridor.

CONCEPT lifted building This project has as its main premise, the design of a space where they can happen many things, but that alone is not an area with undefined rules of action. A structured space to host diferent kind of events, but if it is empty, its morphology aparently naked have always something to say to those who visit it. The space is occupied by pillars those cross the volume since the bottom until the top cover, spaced with diferent distances one from the others, defining plans and also interior rooms sequenced without rigid separations. All the interior is possible to be used and acessed turning over the more convenient space between two pillars, that allow the passage to the next room, in fact is a whole space that seems is composed by innumerable compartiments. This aspect is what is pretended for a contemporary building prepared to answer of what time and circumstances demand.

Were simulated various types of structure, this had a great importance for the development of the concept of the building. Structure faced as a synonym of architectural expression. Wood texture makes strong this language. The specific way of treating the wood as raw material of the project, has increased some solutions, in which the first stage the presence of concrete was to be noted with more emphasis. This presence was to be diluted as the project has developed, reduced at a final stage to the formation of foundations, namely the transition from wood with the natural terrain. In terms of construction, the structural system was marked by a “common” pillar/beam, materialized in joist/beam, using bolted steel connections. The choice for laminated wood, defined thicknesses and distances. These pieces function as a kind of scale, unit of measure. The pillar is indeed a key part of the whole project, making an allusion here to the trunks of the forest and of “the green corridor”. It should also be stressed that the material is applied in order to better respond to technical and aesthetic proposes, clearly distinguishing what is the basis - the pillars forest, the body-pierced for the parallelepiped volume, laternins and the crowning cover with bronze sheets, which ultimately time to make it a green color from an aerial view harmonizes the presence of the building with the surrounds on which it floats.

OPEN PLATEAU EXTENTION

AUDITORIUM break with the heritage Was dedicated special attention to this single part of the building with the intention of create a singular cell able to increase diversity in the functional building skills. The extense program which that includes the traditional cultural devices as a library and book storage, lecture lounge, black box, multiuse place, master exhibition room and a media room, were supported by some functional spaces like reception, clothes room, w.c., coffe bar, internal maintence room, offices, archieves, and different possibilities of acesses, main stairs and emergency exits, normal and heavy weight lifts. Take into account some kind of unexpected situations brought from who will lead in charge and use the building, is created an additional space, very common on similar typologies, an auditorium. It should be used as an extention of some other room that needs to use a interior space with peculiar conditions. In fact, this space is prepared to receive some kind of indoor art expression, sculptures, poetry, theatre, concerts, video conference, instalations, group activities, sports, etc. The auditorium is covered with three towers those can ventilate and iluminate the interior space saving energy. It shape turns it well visible from the exterior and puts itself on focus attention when all the rest seems repetitive and quiet rigid.

FACULDADE ARQUITECTURA LISBOA lifted city in sete rios Urban scale exercise. Is expected to reach a identity strategy for an especific city area, delimited and with peculiar caracteristics defining it as a case study for the near future of city expansion. “Lifted city� was the concept to explore, the guide lines for the exercise development were place a green corridor, create a solid network of acesses and integrate the existent buildings and infrastructures in harmony with the new proposal.

Locate stable areas and extend them connecting the exist road sistem with the new one proposed, is the first step for the upgrade need. Movements without barriers between points of huge fluxes, were them made from bus, tram, bicycle or pedestrians is determinant for shortening time distances. The solution passes through condense all the elements which compose a city in one single piece, with total functional autonomie but very close one from each others. The building is a subtraction result, from a main mass volume, until origin enough space to allow other infrastructures crosses through it, providing all kind of connections. Will be created a ring road, that cover all the intervention area, connected to the exist roads on the ground level, and it will be lifted in some places for an upper level acesses of proximity. Lifted walkways anchored at the ring road, turns possible to reach other buildings without going down to the ground level, saving energy sources and at the same time, that permits good permeability indices of soils. The continous linear body, that compose the building, touch the ground in the minimum area as possible lefting it free for biodiversity and outdoor citizens activities. This apparent massive construction is in fact superficial. The covered area is under the permited numbers of the maximum construction capacity for this city area, reforced with the soft ecological footprint, caused by planted roofs, that enlarge the outdoor resources and the pretended green corridor on upper levels.

HOUSE IN COMPORTA PORTUGAL ALCÁCER DO SAL

PRIVATE CLIENT west portuguese coast The Herdade da Comporta is located in the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve and the Comporta-Galé Community Area so that visitors can have the opportunity to see its diverse animal life up close. The Sado Estuary Nature Reserve is one of the country’s most important wetlands with many different natural features and systems (beaches, dunes, marshes, heath land, woods, salt flats, rice fields and peat bogs) which attract a wide variety of birds. More than 200 species have been identified there. In a nature reserve where pines, cork oaks and junipers dominate the landscape, discover the many shades of green which contrast with the soft tones of the sandy soil. Very rare species of Mediterranean vegetation also make this a place of high environmental value.

SPATIAL CONQUER program The structural base program includes: -a floor-technical areas that work in basement; -a shared bathroom; -a main living room; -a kitchen; -three bedrooms with private bathroom; -a swimming pool; Was made a management of these basic elements of the program taking into account the factors conditioning the implementation of the project, limit construction area and its perimeter allowed by current regulation. Towards a spatial optimization, compared to the boundary areas, the program was structured in two-storey building above ground floor elevation, being located on the ground floor a common living area, a kitchen and a bedroom with a toilet. On the floor above are located two rooms with private sanitary both, but different as regards their size, one being considerably larger and provided with a dressing area. On this floor of rooms, there being a common area which coincides with the distribution space for them. This zone acts as a mezzanine communicating with the living room on the ground floor.

SPATIAL CONQUER program 55

The proposal have as main premise of organization the relationship exposured of the common spaces face each other. This means that the organization of the program is an intervention simple and uncluttered, allowing a common area of the house to achieve visually all others. That means, a non subdivision space of common areas in favor of a visual range amplified. Paradoxically, it would suggest a uniform space, a depersonalization of space to communicate directly, but the intention is that the house functions as submissive shell which hosts itself great highlight elements like the fireplace, the stairs, the cabin kitchen and fireplace. These elements are important archetypes of folk portuguese architecture, and acquire a predominant role in the design of the final result.
