POLISH-CZECH INTEGRATION CENTER LOCATION: CIESZYN/ČESKÝ TĚŠÍN

Cieszyn as a „divided city” since beginning of its separation have had political, economic, and sociological problems. Next generation, often against their will, began a defender of national proud and memory. Historical heritage leaded to disappear knowledge of both languages among teenagers and a friendly meeting between peers from both cities is impossible. Project try to answer the question, if an architecture is able to integrate and create a base for coexistence? The proposition is a pedestrian bridge with Polish-Czech Integration Center on it. Located above river Olza, a natural and political border between Poland and Czech Republic, Center should became a space for study languages: Polish and Czech, and based on international and intergenerational cooperation.

WEAVER’S COOPERATIVE LOCATION: GAJKÓW, POLAND

The project tries answer to questions, how to connect a good conditions of living with a place of work. Work which generates noise and vibration. How to connect context with manufacture hall, using environmentally friendly materials and new technology.

The parametric designed sawtooth roof lets overcome high distinctions between parts of a workshop hall, at the same time connect with surroundings by one coherent building. By crest of motion in different planes, program creates the best option to get highest sun energy consumption, which fall on roof. Through that it is possible to exploit renewable energy sources, store a rainwater and create daylight from north, which is preferred to the hall.

OLD BREWERY LOCATION: WROCĹ AW, POLAND

Project incorporate diverse aspects of the compromise. On the first side is surroundings of historic building of brewery, nearness of old town. The huge context. On the other hand plot locates between the railway track and two historic buildings with north insolation. Density.

The Piast brewery was found at the end of XIX century and its product immediately became an icon of a Lower Silesia beer. The company was working till 2004, and then all complex stared fall into decline. Now whole land is destined to settle.

PUBLIC LIBRARY LOCATION: WROCĹ AW, POLAND

Nowadays public library became a building of a contrast. On the one hand, technology and internet replace a typical method of research. On the second hand people still are looking for quiet place to work or contemplation, as old libraries. For this reason project base on two diverse sides. Interior is separated between space for individual work, in a depth of building, whereas multimedia spots are located in the best insolated part. Another contrast is the bright facade, which strongly stand out from historic surrounding of Old Town, however, have not disturbed urban arrangement.

CONCEPTION OF CITY SQUARE BY ZODIAK PAVILION TEAM: Łukasz Kaczmrek, Joanna Klimek, Anna Klimczak, Ewa Plucińska LOCATION: WARSAW, POLAND

Zodiak Pavilion, as a part of the West Wall, belong to one of the best polish modernist urban project. For us square in front of pavilion should be visual and functional addition in space, which remind and respect historical background. By the transparent, openwork frame we retract historic concept, but also give new quality of public sphere. The square should be place, where society have first contact with drawings, films, models and every method which show design live in Warsaw. The idea of surrounding square by frame is connected with modeling of a floor. Holes in openwork are located in way, which leads to pavilion through exhibitions .

Center of Warsaw

Surroundings of Zodiak pavilion is extremely important in a city life. The square locateted in strict city center, belong to historical „West Wall. On the other hand it creates small private space, beeing the breath in the crowded passage. In the past whole passaege and square was definy by spatial frame, which has given a coherace in a space, and created human scale environment. We want to remind a Mondernist heritage of this place and bring back to live the intimate square in a heart of Warsaw. That is why we are propousing the new frame, background to social acitivites and participation with architecture.

THE CITY WITHIN THE CITY MOSAIC OF OCCURRENCES

Second price in international competition TEAM: ASW Studio Projektowe Maciej Hawrylak, Konrad Onderko, Łukasz Kaczmarek, Robet Witczak, Joanna Klimek, Kinga Przymuszała LOCATION: STARGARD SZCZECIŃSKI, POLAND

Finding alternative for existing urban policy became undeniable issue, which require a new path in urban design. The idea, therefore, involves various concepts as a whole, creates mosaic of narratives. A city for all, inclusive and equal, dynamic and sustainable, where spatial and natural context play role, was the main objective in design process. Project present new fragment of the city as a compact form, with cohesive space order. Urban plan is defined through condensed components, which at the same time tries to preserve diversity in all aspects of human existence and natural environment. Modern, dynamic city meet at the same time intimate urban spaces, what allows to initiate manifold social interactions.

120 HOURS TEAM: Joanna Klimek, Marzena Dziedzic

Architecture contains three main components: construction, shape and function. If we rule out the last one, we are left with building in which the only thing that matters is it appearance. But does it work for every kind of building? House is a place where first of all we should feel safe and comfortable. We should know that this place belongs to us. Based on those statements we designed a simple building in which the only permanent construction is modular cube frame. Important thing to feel safe at home is possibility of separation from outside world. A way to do that are walls made of light and steam. They give feeling of isolation, warmth and coziness, however they cannot be used in any other way. Even though they do not have any function, possibility of controlling shape of a house give a sense of ownership.

CONFERENCE „INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE – VISIONS OF SURVIVING”. WAŁBRZYCH’S SHAFT TRAIL TEAM: Joanna Klimek, Marzena Dziedzic

The end of exploitation Walbrzych’s coal load in 90’s, began process of transformation and searching for new identity in postindustrial area. Despite of success in refurbish coal mine into museum, the idea of change and preservation industrial heritage is not proceed. Valuable spaces are staying undeveloped and often in critical condition, instead of being exploit as potential and a base for urban revitalization process. Proposition of shaft trail is an attempt to implement again postindustrial buildings into life of Walbrzych. Bike and car trail encourage tourists, as well as inhabitants, to explore important place in history of polish industry and present them as an important and equal parts of city. New functions must thus, focus on desires and expectation of both potential users and be based on public-private cooperation, with aim of socioeconomic improvement in surrounding area. Lighting of shaft towers symbolically restitute their existence to the city life, yet also brings back subtle glow over the area, once, the characteristic feature of Walbrzych landscape.
