Coaching pays off

Brett finds the recipe for success CLEETHORPES’ latest venue has this week opened to the public, marking the most recent success for the busy business owner. Brett Smith, owner of Cambridge Street’s People Bar & Kitchen and Society, has opened his third venture, Copper, a bar and restaurant in Alexandra Road. The venue, which is themed on copper metals and contrasting slate, offers both three-course dining and the business’ signature meze-style platters, as well as a selection of high quality wines, spirits, craft ales and drinks. Brett said: “We do a lot of different trade in People Bar and Society, a fantastic mix of people in both, but we don’t focus on fine wines and cocktails. So that’s where the idea came from, to accumulate all of those things we can’t do and put them somewhere else. “It’s very, very exciting. It’s something I’ve never done before in terms of cocktails and
three-course menus, so I’m looking forward to it. If you want to come in and have a drink, you can have a drink, and if you want to sit down and enjoy a meal, you can do that. It’s the same rules as People Bar and Society, relaxed.” The kitchen will be run by head chef Mark Olgeirsson, who has previously trained and worked at Valerie’s Italian and The Captain’s Table. He follows chef Nathan George, who has joined the business from The Comfy Duck, Winteringham Fields and The Hope and Anchor in South Ferriby. Brett said: “We’ve just taken on Nathan, who has a fantastic pedigree. He’s joined Society to create a gastro pub type of menu, so you will have your burgers, your fish, but with a street food twist. “And now, with Copper, it gives us the ability to have another very good, fantastically trained chef in Mark. What goes well with wines and cocktails is nibbly food, so Mark’s carrying that
trend along, but you will be able to go there with your partner, husband or wife, and have a starter, main and dessert, which is something we’ve never done before.” In addition to the new Chefs, who join Lisa Wilkinson at People Bar and Kitchen, Brett has recruited Lyndsay Scattergood as operations manager, who works across and supports all three venues. The team has expanded to keep up with the demands of the developing business, which is one of the latest members to join the Business Hive. Brett said: “It’s exciting all round, and it’s easy for us to say that because we’re here every single day seeing the different things that are happening. But it’s great to have another new place opening in Cleethorpes, and with the old bank in Sea View Street that’s hopefully going to open as a venue soon, that’s another place to look forward to. Local people are investing local money into the area.”

Since then, they have worked tirelessly implementing our world class systems into their business. “I’ve seen the amount of work they have put into the business over the past 12 to 15 months, so the recognition for them was absolutely fabulous. “I guess, from my perspective, it’s an endorsement of what we do really works for our clients. “More and more people in the business world understand that part of being successful is working with a business coach. “All the businesses I work with are good businesses, but working with a business coach just focuses the mind and accelerates the success that they’ll have. “I’m helping them to move from being good businesses to being great businesses.” ActionCoach hosts regular events and workshops across the region, and has recently joined forces with NatWest for a series of seminars. 2 Thursday, May 25, 2017 Cleethorpes Chronicle Special Supplement Anne Winslow – coaching for the mind.
Banish those hidden pains A LOCAL business woman is helping people to let go of unwanted pain and stresses in the body with a new inner healing therapy. Anne Winslow, who offers Journey Therapy through her business Anne Winslow - The Journey Within, has introduced an additional service to her range of therapies, which are based upon ‘healing the past, empowering your present and attracting your best future’. OldPain2Go is a new therapy designed to remove or reduce old pain messages that are no longer helpful, and can be used following treatment and support from medical professionals. Anne said: “Sometimes, even after treatment and medical support when nothing more can be done, the pain doesn’t turn off. The mind will always look after you so it will never turn off
new pain, because pain is needed as a warning, but there is lots of pain that isn’t needed that we can turn off through talking to the unconscious mind. “Even people who are on painkillers are still in pain, and it can debilitate people’s lives, it can take away happiness, it can make people snappy, and it affects relationships, so just the thought of being able to help people turn off pain is quite lovely.” OldPain2Go is the latest therapy being offered by Business Hive member Anne, who also provides Healing Codes, Past Life Regression, Future Life Progression and The Clearance, which uses mindfulness techniques for relaxation and healing. “Everything that I do is about healing the past, empowering
your present and attracting your best future. In an age when everybody’s lives are just so busy and fast, it’s lovely to be able to offer the Healing Codes and group sessions, so people can learn techniques to use on themselves. “Letting go of your emotional baggage can be really beneficial to your health as well, and the way it’s done is really relaxing and lovely. It’s empowering for people to be able to do this for themselves”. Anne Winslow hosts group sessions, ‘Success and Happiness Through Relaxation’, on the second Tuesday of the month at The Business Hive, Grimsby. They take place at 5.30pm and 7.30pm, and cost £15 per person. Contact Anne on 07757 263026 or visit myjourneytherapy.co.uk for more information.

The last five years have been hard work, but it’s been a fantastic journey of ups and downs with plenty of learning. “The business has continued to grow and improve in a number of areas, specifically our customer service and quality of work. This is all down to the team beside me, all of the people who have worked at Laser Red have been a huge part of it’s success and the team we have now are fantastic! It’s also very special to be presented the award by the college I attended, Franklin College.” Beauty at the Gate, the national award-winning salon in Holton-le-Clay, won the competitive Small Business of the Year award. Paul Beatty, owner, said: “Winning any award is a fantastic feeling, it vindicates your approach to the business and gives you the confidence to encourage
Samantha and Paul Beatty, owners of Beauty at the Gate. further growth, thus creating more employment opportunities. “We have been lucky enough to be successful in respect of winning awards within our own industry which makes winning this award extra special as it focuses on the business as a whole rather than being mainly on the treatments and service. It basically rewards all the behind the scenes stuff that make a business tick.” The team from the Business Hive were there on the night to support and congratulate all of their winning and shortlisted members.

A LoCAL store has sown the seeds for growth as it reaches new audiences. The team at Grimsby Garden Centre, located on Laceby road, has been busy preparing for the launch of their brand new ecommerce website, which is expected to go live in June. in addition to this, the team has been working on a multi-platform marketing plan with a focus on family engagement. Jo Keen, general manager of Grimsby Garden Centre and Tukes, said: “it’s been an interesting journey so far. We have grand plans and then we have realistic plans, so we’re going to do this bit by bit and engage with our customers to find out what it is they want to see at their local garden centre.
For us, it’s about community engagement and feedback from the people using the site to steer us in the direction that they want us to go in. “if you have ideas of things you want to see on the site that we’re not currently stocking, tell us. We want that engagement.” Grimsby Garden Centre, a member of The Business Hive, e-factor’s enterprise support club, was bought by Navigo in october 2015 and has embraced the community-feel to the site, hosting events and pop-up activities such as Halloween pumpkin carving and a summer Family Fun Day. in addition to the loyal local custom, the team has recognised the potential for reaching new audiences.
“The new website helps us to move with modern times, creating engagement across a wider age range. Not only that, we’ve realised that people visiting the site aren’t just in North East Lincolnshire. We’ve sold things to people as far as Harrogate and Lincoln, so a lot of people are travelling from out of the area to Grimsby. We’re on the way to Cleethorpes, and there’s a lot of people passing through who perhaps don’t know we’re here. “We have got something special, we are a little bit quirky and different, and with the capacity to sell our products online, there is a wider message to be spread. it could create further employment and training opportunities.”
