Becoming more different places and have our involved with service opporown stories but one thing we tunities on-campus and in the all have in common is that local Harrisonburg community we are committed to helping is what I want to promote. I others through community graduated from Harrisonburg service. Every time I volunteer
I feel humbled and happy to be around you all while encouraging others to get involved. Also, we need to get more guys involved in this club, so ladies if you know any guys who are as excited as I am about service please tell them how awesome our club is and that they Love, should join. I hope everyone Shvan has a swell semester and can “Live to Serve. Love to Serve.” make room in their busy schedules to get in some CKI service 1 hours.
Service Livestock Show
Catherine Belous Volunteering at the Rockingham County Livestock Show was a blast. We worked with Kiwanis members to sell food at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds. From the great company of the Kiwanis members to getting to see all the livestock, it was a great afternoon. The Kiwanis members were so friendly and welcoming. They helped make the experience really enjoyable and full of laughter. It was my first time at a livestock show and I was full of questions. Everyone purchasing food was so friendly and more than willing to answer my questions about the show. At the end of the day we walked around the barn trying to sell the little bit of food we had left. It was awesome getting to see all the beautiful cows and bulls. It was a great afternoon spent volunteering, getting to know Kiwanis members and learning about livestock.
Kiester Pen Pal Letters This year, JMU CKI is particpating in a pen pal program with the second graders at Kiester Elementary.
“I’m so excited to have a pen pal! It’s awesome that this helps them learn how to write letters, but it’s fun as well!” Anne Marie Henry 2
Football Concessions Emily Hsu
Saturday the 13th, a bunch of us got together to work football concessions for the JMU v. William and Mary game. It was a chilly but fun and eventful afternoon. We were in charge of helping sell concessions by “hawking” in the lower level home section of football stadium. “Hawking”, a concept I’d seen multiple times at football and baseball games but never knew the name of involves carrying large insulated backpacks and trays that carried everything from hot cocoa to hot dogs while walking up and down the stands to sell them to JMU’s fans in the stands. I’m used to sitting in the student section so getting to see everything from the other side of the stadium was amazing. Our football stadium is truly one of a kind so it was a good opportunity to be able to explore the stadium from a different side. Hawking was definitely an experience that I won’t be likily to forget soon.
Football Concessions Take 2 Emily Benusa
The familiarity of old friends and alumni scattered JMU’s campus with excited anticipation for the Duke’s Homecoming game against Georgia State. As our second fundraiser of the year, CKI participated in its second Football Concessions. We were thankful that we were able to be inside the small cozy coke trailer since it rained for the beginning part of the morning. With two cashiers and three runners, we were able to efficiently hand out all sorts of goodies to dedicated football fans. We even managed to have a little fun!! Participating in service events is what Circle K is all about and I love doing it with our amazing members and having a blast.
Fellowship October Social Sam Wilkins
Cows, Corn Mazes and Pumpkins! Sunday October 14th we journeyed to Back Home on the Farm, pumped for autumn adventures, taking turns posing in scarecrow cut outs, feeding hungry, hungry goats and petting horses and cows! After watching an exhilarating pig race, won by Sponge “Hog Square Pants, we began on a race of our own. We embarked on a circuitous maze filled with of corn-y trivia, twists and turns, and dead ends. After reaching clue seven, we knew we were closer to the end. The teams raced on competitively, risking unmarked turns for the chance of a short cut. For results on who won, well, that depends on who you ask.
