• When William A. Bloodworth, Jr., became Augusta State’s eighth president in 1993, he was introduced at a reception at Sacred Heart Cultural Center. As his presidency ends June 30, it is fitting that his retirement also be celebrated there. In his nearly 19-year presidency, President Bloodworth has lifted the university to national prominence, and he has worked hard to increase the prestige and reputation of Augusta State. The university has experienced $103 million in new construction as well as growth in enrollment, academic programs, student life, and donor support. Although he leaves the university far better than he found it, President Bloodworth refuses to take the credit, citing instead the work of those with whom he works as well as past presidents who laid a strong foundation for growth. We would like to leave another legacy for President Bloodworth. Anyone who knows him knows of his concern that many high school students cannot afford to attend college. A lasting tribute to him would be an endowment to provide scholarships to deserving students. Your contribution to the William A. Bloodworth, Jr., Endowment Fund will not only generate funds to provide these scholarships, but will honor a man who has given selflessly and tirelessly to this university. You can make your donation online at www.aug.edu/wabendowment, by calling 706-737-1759, or mail it to ASU Foundation, Inc., William A. Bloodworth, Jr., Endowment, 2500 Walton Way, Augusta, GA. 30904-2200. The endowment will be announced at the retirement celebration.
