This space, for budding law firm looking to make a statement in a sea of Washington, DC attorneys, is a successful realization of stability, luxury and warmth. Working within a limited budget we were able to develop a design that conveys the passion of the young law firm while also portraying an impression of permanence and growth. To deliver this tailored message, we meticulously focused on feature elements, architectural lines and materiality to achieve a harmonious balance between budget and perceived luxury.

This project was a re-design of the principal entry point for a new bar and restaurant in an existing building in the bustling Chevy Chase neighborhood of DC. Here the challenge was to draw passer-bys up to the second story Cigar Lounge and neighboring restaurant. A dramatic, backlit acrylic stair oozes light beyond a dramatic granite frame that punctures the facade of the existing building to usher visitors to the second level where the bar and restaurant can be found.

The program and intent for this restaurant was to focus on the shared dining experience. The open cooking stations with bar height seating give diners an immersive experience, watching the food as it is prepared while sharing the experience with others seated next to them. The open design and activity of the kitchens and diners convey a feeling of a night out with friends.

A long and narrow plan was challenging when the program demanded different seating styles. Using the bar as a point of pivot, we were able to keep it close to everyone while allowing it to shape the circulation path.

This project, for TopChef Brian Voltagio, transformed an old car dealership into a modern diner. Working with a limited budget was challenging, yet rewarding process. In a heavily vehicular setting, the exterior had to appeal to the fast moving traffic of the adjacent highway while the interior focused on creating an experience that celebrated meticulously handcrafted offerings of the diner.

An open plan maximizes the amount of seating. A central kitchen with open fenestrations connects the back of house with front of house and opens the kitchen to diners.
