SEPTEMBER 2018

volume 1 A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Nicole (Bambi) Watson Welcome to the 2018-19 JLC League year! The Board and many committees have been working hard throughout the summer to make sure this is one of the best League years yet. This year, through our community engagement initiative, A League of Learners, we will be focused on the JLC Adopt-a-Teacher program. Through this program JLC will be assisting teachers in Hamilton County Opportunity Zone schools with needs during the school year.  To kick off the program and in partnership with the Hamilton County Department of Education, we held a welcome reception for all first-year elementary school teachers working in Opportunity Zone schools. We are so excited to work alongside and support these teachers! Look for more detail on this program and how you can become involved in our email newsletter. For more information on Opportunity Zone schools in Hamilton County visit hcde.org/departments/opportunity_zone.  The Board met this summer to plan new fundraisers, strategize about membership goals and work on ways to strengthen our community engagement and branding. It is a goal of the 2018-19 JLC Board to focus on the 3 R’s: Recruitment, Re-engagement and Retention. We are working to make the League the best organization for women in Chattanooga. If you know someone interested in joining the League - reach out to us. If you know a past member looking to reengage in the League - reach out to us. We will strive to make sure every current League member has a satisfying and successful League experience. Lastly, my door - and all forms of communication- is always open to all League members. I encourage you to reach out with ideas, needs, and complaints. The Board and I feel that open and transparent communication is the best way to make our organization and relationships stronger. I look forward to working with all JLC members (past, present and future) to make a lasting impact on our community. Best,  Nicole (Bambi) Watson JLC President 2018-19

BEST ADVICE YOU CAN SHARE WITH THE NEW PROVISIONALS You get out of the League, what you put into it! JLC has great opportunities to better yourself, each other and volunteer. Have fun, learn from each other and strive to make a difference in our community. Take full advantage of the League! You won't regret it.

YOUR TOP 3 EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS LEAGUE YEAR To rock our new Adopt-A-Teacher program, our first year with the Touch-ATruck fundraiser and membership goals to Recruit, Retain and Reengage active, sustainers and past JLC members.

IF YOU WERE A SUPERHERO, WHAT POWER WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO HAVE? Teleportation....If I could instantly teleport myself to places just think of all the things I could get done, experience and see. Watch out, Wonder Woman!
