Project Information The purpose of this project was to renovate the existing office space of a cutting-edge advertising agency. We were to choose a design method and several precedents, and adapt them to this specific project. I chose to use the deconstructive grid as the basis for my floor plan, and transformed the corridor into a wooden box that ultimately leads from the reception area to the “outside of the box operations center. The floor plan as well as the furniture and finishes are simple and modern, but incorporate some unconventional details to reflect the culture of the company. 2

Project Information The purpose of this project was to choose any famous person (designer, actor, artist, etc.), and create either a stand-alone “cottage,” or a suite in a hotel based upon this person’s iconic style. I have always been drawn to the bold simplicity of Piet Mondrian’s work, so this choice was an easy one for me. I began by researching his works, and ultimately based the floor plan off of one of them. Each room has a specific dominating color that coordinates with his iconic style, as well as simple, minimalist furniture. We also had to design a coordinating storage piece for the bathroom, which is located in the water closet for discreet storage. 6

Project Information The purpose of this project was to use the LEED for Homes rating system to renovate a home for a family of four, with twins on the way. We were to work with a partner to develop an overall plan, and delegate tasks for the public and private areas. My responsibility was the private areas (as shown in the rendered areas of the floor plan), which included a master suite, laundry room, the boys’ bedrooms and bathroom, as well as an addition with two bedrooms (one to serve as a nursery and one to serve as a playroom) and a shared bathroom. Our goal was to achieve LEED Silver certification, which we succeeded in doing. We used several strategies to do this, including regional materials, daylighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures, semi-pervious paving materials, as well as a geothermal system for heating.

The purpose of this project was to remodel an existing guest suite and garage into an apartment space. The son of the clients was recently in an accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down, so everything in this apartment space needed to be accessible from a wheelchair. He is a 25-year-old musician in a country western band, and a baby grand piano plays a large role in his life. His living area features a music area with bench seating along the window, space for a drum set, and the couch in the television area can easily be turned around to provide more seating as necessary. His bathroom is completely accessible, featuring a zero-threshold shower, adequate grab bars, and a shower seat. His apartment has easy access to the main house, but also provides a sense of independence.

Project Information The purpose of this project was to renovate the kitchen of this family to NKBA Standards. The clients’ children had just moved out, though they still enjoy hosting small dinner parties and asked that there be a space in the kitchen to visit with guests while cooking. They also enjoy gourmet cooking and bulk cooking, so a gourmet stove, large refrigerator, and plenty of storage were a must. The clients also mentioned a love for the outdoors, so I expanded the windows to stretch nearly the whole back wall that is shared with the outdoor patio. With a budget of $50,000 for flooring, cabinets, countertop, backsplash tile, appliances, and a new dining room set, I had my work cut out for me. The clients requested light wood flooring and cabinets, as well as blue and green accents and shaker-style cabinets. I obeyed and ran with their requests and designed a relaxing, simple space for cooking and gathering for the clients and their guests to enjoy.

Project My job was to create quick conceptual sketches based on photographs of the client’s existing home. Their request was that we find a way to make their recent second-story addition more exciting, and open up their front porch area. We did this by extending the eaves, adding decorative beams and trusses, and creating a new roofline for the porch.

“Before” Photos !

Project My job was to design and create a new logo for the project, which was the renovation of a large church’s preschool and daycare service.

Project My job was to assist with the space planning for the renovation and transformation of a historical building into bed a breakfast. This example features the layout of their breakfast room/café. 15
