Autobiography Born in Dujiangyan, China, where the oldest hydraulic system was built between mountains and rivers, Jingjing Liu has great passion for understanding the nature and how it interacts with human being. Out of the curiosity of natural science she obtained Ph.D. in Material Science in University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2011, and applied the knowledge and skills in frontiers of semiconductor industry for 5 years. She then decided to fulfill her dream as a designer and started MFA in school of Interior Architecture Design, Academy of Art University. Jingjing believes aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability can be all achieved by careful space planning and materials usage. Technology and natural can harmonically react with humans and benefit both sides. This portfolio shows interaction between geometric network and spherical forms in terms of building elements, furniture lay out, and materials usage.

Concept Statement I am proposing a boutique hotel with concept of scientific aspects of crystal - including the crystalline structure, the repetitive orders of atoms, and the bonding that connects these atoms, and the interactions between the atoms. The atmosphere of this space shall provide strong attraction due to the crystal facets, the orders of geometry, the rhythm from atomic lattice, and spherical elements representing atoms to bring harmony to the geometric emphasized space. Also, Silicon is the major materials for semiconductor industry. Due to its unique crystal and electric band structure, electrons can be controlled and here began our digital age. Elements:

Acrylic glass hanging feature

Acrylic glass bar counter

10

Customized carpet

•

Crystal structures: 3D triangular facets with metal and glass

•

Crystal lattice with atoms bonded in certain order

•

Atoms and atomic interaction: Spheres and organic shapes

Concept

Imago is the mature stage of an inset after coming out of cocoons. This concept resembles the trasition of new immigrant as they develop their language skill and job skill, as they rest and recovery in a private home before the break through and turn into a beatiful “imago”. The forms of cocoon and butterfly wrings will be used as design elements of the community center. Cocoons - “Suspended” ellipsoidal and circular solid and semi opaque form Wings - Transparent, semi-transparent fragile glass curtain systems attached tio or developed from the cocoons

My concept is paradise cove, key words are tropical plants, aqua blue of the cove water. Beidge from the sand and shell of the beach, and light gray from drifted wood. I intend to create a cozy and comfortable space that attract people to dine out here as if they are at home. Waves, tropical leaves, and wood will be my design elements. In abstraction, curves, herringbone, shell, and scollepe shapes will resonate with the space user. I will bring green tropical plants indoor, and combine with a water fall wall to emphasize the concept.
