Health and Wellness (cont’d) July 26 The Mona Lions Club assisted the Downtown Kingston Lions in vision screening at the health fair held at Shortwood Community Church. Of the 21 vision screening done, seventeen (17) were given referrals to their personal optometrist . The health fair was conducted in conjunction with an overseas team (MASH) of visiting doctors, nurses and pharmacists. There were also local doctors, nurses and other volunteers participating. The Lion President of Downtown Kingston one Leo and the Mona Lion participated.. The Mona Lion conducted the vision screening. Value: JA$ 14350

July 26 Food items were given to a needy family to help feed her two young children. The family was very grateful for the assistance. It provided the nutrition needed for the young children as well as prevented the children going to bed without a meal, at least for that day. Value of Project:JA$2,000.00


International Relationships July 26 The Lions Club of Mona was the recipient of US$1000.00 from Links International, New York Chapter for the continuation of our work in the field of Chronic diseases. The organization visited the Club a few years ago, had a week’s workshop in training Lions and community folk about chromic diseases and how to care for such persons as well as teaching/training of other community folks about health and illness – how to remain healthy. Their interest in this health area continues and the reason for this latest contribution. Value of Donation US$1000.00 NB. Links is one of the United States of America's oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. Our work with Links was to implement their Umbrella Program, "Family Connections: Diabetes and Obesity"
