PASTORS FLOUT SAME SEX -MARRIAGE BAN
A GROWING NUMBER of pastors in the United Methodist Church say they are no longer willing to obey a rule banning them from officiating same-sex marriages. In some parts of the United States, M e t h o d i s t pastors have been
marrying same-sex couples or conducting blessing ceremonies for same-sex unions with no backlash from the denomination, but the threat of being put on trial for violating a church prohibition is real. (Associated Press)

through follow-up works to date. Likewise, the elders regularly soak their feet in LOCK (Lighthouse’ Outreach for Community Kids) every Saturday while a bunch of dedicated brethren go to different schools teaching V O I C E l e s s o n s ( Va l u e s Orientation Instruction in Classroom Education) to students. Also, through The Great Lighthouse Foundation (TGLF), the Church provides Calamity Assistance and Relief Endeavors to communities, otherwise known as C.A.R.E. and even educational assistance to deserving students through a program called L.E.A.P. Also under TGLF, two branches of The Generics Pharmacy were recently opened to help provide cheap yet safe and effective medicines to people. These are only some of the ministries and soon, another one aiding the victims of drug addiction will be launched.
Located in Tatalon, Quezon City of Metro Manila, Philippines, Lighthouse continues to shine a distinct kind of light by faithfully fulfilling the mandate of the Lord or what is called the Great Commission. In the pursuit of leading men to Christ, the ministry doesn’t cease to ‘DO ALL,’ instead, several programs laid by Senior Pastor Bishop Reuben Abante constantly carry out projects to meet the spiritual and even physical needs of the people – whether young or old, rich or financially challenged, influential or ordinary citizens. This is why, every Lighthouse member has certainly a work “Steadfast, unmovable, and abounding in the work always” to do in the ministry. – these words quite perfectly In fact, just before the classes describe what Lighthouse is. resumed, 70 young people Despite its many endeavors participated in the SUMMER though, the work remains BLAST that led to the salvation focused on the of 1,050 who are being discipled
real goal of the Church which is to obey the Lord’s command in Matthew 28 which if summed up, is “the all-inclusive work of getting people saved (through the Gospel), the baptizing of the saved and the building up of the baptized to do the will of God.” With its theme “Raising our Levels High” this year, Lighthouse is fearless and aims to do more for the Lord! It’s diligently pressing on becoming even more and more relevant and effective in the community of Tatalon and elsewhere. As the Lord supplies grace, Bishop Reuben has been showing unflagging strength and zeal, only few of the virtues that challenge and help his members take the right path and have the right attitude toward God and His work. Hearing Bishop Reuben’s preaching on how the work of the Lord should be done, one would clearly understand the importance of unity and how everyone should function in the church. How Should New Testament ... from page 1 each believer in the church is expected to be faithful in prayer, Bible-reading, church attendance and so on. But just as we also see in any organization, each member in the church has one main and particular role or task to accomplish, according to the ability that God has given him (Romans 12:6-8). It might be in teaching, music, soul-winning, administrative work or so, but the duty of every workman surely doesn’t end in attending the church and hearing God’s word preached. Through the pastor’s leadership, Lighthouse envisions to see that everyone knows how to serve. Believing that the highest virtue that a church should have is obedience, Bishop Reuben challenges everyone to work ‘together.’ Indeed, anyone in my shoe would be grateful to be guided
how work is supposed to be done. I am also blessed to find Lighthouse’s commitment to raising leaders and how leaders groom the younger ones to lead others as well. The pastor himself teaches that as we bring men to Christ, the concern is not just in winning the soul but in saving the whole being of that man, and so we do everything for him to reach full growth in every aspect. Another notable characteristic among Lighthouse brethren is the level of respect that one has for each other. Consistent with the Scriptures (1 Peter 5:5), everybody must learn to subject himself one to another – a manifestation of one’s humility and surrender before our Lord. Praise God for the Lighthouse example! (AT)

that happens ONLY if we tow the line, which means DOING RIGHT according to GOD’S perfect will. Often times we miss the point of the true meaning of doing right. We tend to assume too much that substantial compliance to what God wants us to do is perfectly all right to GOD.I used to sing that song “ Do Right” but honestly sometimes, I didn’t. And I felt awful because I knew I shortchanged the Lord. 7. It’s a long weekend, and I’m taking a vacation! And convince our selves that God will understand us anyway because of His immeasurable love. Also, many Christians nowadays wrongly assume that’s it’s all right to just come to the morning worship or maybe in the evening worship service and give half or part of their tithe as God will understand it anyway. Biblical Words & What They Mean: Restitution
By: Dr. Don Meecha Light of Messiah Ministries Int’l Toronto, Canada
Leviticus 6:4-6 - Here anything about which a man has “…sworn falsely; he shall make restitution for it in full & add to it 1/5 more He shall give it to the one to whom it belongs on the day he presents his guilt offering.” If, a man swears falsely against someone & has been found guilty, he must repay the party he attempted to offend & add 20% to it in order to make it right. Failure to make restitution is considered evil in the sight of God & His Word. If a man does wrong, especially, knowingly, he is obligated to make it right & give back what is prescribed.
Numbers 5:7-9 - The principle embodied here is that if “a man shall confess his sins which he has committed & he shall make restitution in full for his wrong & add (20%) one-fifth of it & give it to him whom he has wronged…” Meaning that when the confession Restitution in the Newer is made, or the guilty verdict is giv- Covenant & the Issues of Today en, the guilty party must (1) confess their sin publically (2) make restitution to the wronged party in the Today when someone becomes a Believer they will have a desire & a conviction to do good & make restitution whenever
possible. However, many are discouraged from doing so by other believers. Why do believers coach others not to do the Biblical thing? There are a variety of reasons & people are: 1. Not taught the whole council of the Bible; both the Older & the Newer Covenants 2. Taught that they do not have to keep, or do things from the Older Covenant 3. Taught that the Newer Covenant teaches something different from the Older Covenant 4. Taught that by keeping the commandments they are doing the “Jewish thing” 5. Taught that they may follow their feelings, as if it is the Spirit of God leading them, when in fact their feelings are not the Holy Spirit The commands governing the principles & the concept of restitution are clear, concise and speak directly to the issues involved. If Yeshua is the “Same yesterday, today & forever,” then His Word is the same yesterday, today & forever & the words that guided our forefathers, should guide us as well today.

are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.” In this passage we see that restoration is also a process of restitution in that when a believer sins they must correct their wrong & make it as right, if possible. This is why there is a warning in this passage to the spiritual person; that they not fall into the sin with the erring brother or sister.
amount of the original loss (3) add 20% to the amount lost (4) give the original amount & the 20% to the party wronged. The passage continues to say, “…but if the man has no relative to whom restitution may be made (evidently the sin is confessed beyond the living-time of the offended) for the wrong, the restitution which is made for the wrong must go to the Lord for the priest, besides the ram of atonement, by which atonement is made for him…” The guilty party is bound, when unable to fulfill this obligation to the offended party, or their relatives, to give it, the restitution & 20%, to the priests & the Lord’s system of worship. This is confirmed by the end of this passage, “…also every contribution pertaining to all the holy gifts of the sons of Israel, which they offer to the priest, shall be his.” Restitution plus 20% is to be made at confession & if the offended party is unable to receive the restitution, which can be for a variety of reasons, it must be made to the Lord’s representative in those days.
relations, sports, or anything that tends to be important in your life. What is the purpose of fasting? Religious fasting should be directed at either (1) Elevating the presence of God in your life (coming closer to God), or (2) A very specific spiritual purpose (perhaps some sin in your life) or some need in the church. God said, “When you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you” When a man or woman is willing to set aside the legitimate appetites of the body to concentrate on the work of praying, they are demonstrating that they mean business, that they are seeking God with all their heart. Fasting is an expression of wholeheartedness. What should be the purpose of our fast? When did the Old Testament saints and early church fast? Why did they fast? What were their purposes? What can we learn by examining the past that would be helpful today?
know the principles of restitution? The root of Restitution is peace. Peace with God & peace with man. And remember, this is not a requirement for salvation. If you have received forgiveness of sins through faith in Yeshua, all of your sins are forgiven & this becomes the Biblical Principle of correcting our wrongs in the physical realm before we meet our Messiah & 1 Corinthians 1:10 declares that our God. the local assembly must be “reIn the Newer Covenant the Greek stored to an original condition” word katartizo, meaning to make in the material realm as in the complete, restore, to repair, to spiritual realm. “Now I exhort complete, to restore to an original you, brethren, by the name of condition is used to convey the our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, Hebraic concept of “shalam.” It that you all agree & that there is used in a variety of ways & it be no divisions among you, but must be noted that the very essence that you be made complete in the of the word indicates a “life-long same mind & in the same judgprocess” of being made complete ment.” Believers are exhorted in the Lord & is used mainly as to be made complete, restored the process which continues on to to God & each other in a better perfect restoration. THE MEASURING CUP By: Agatha Tapan
When Jesus spent his lifetime or where Christians tend to lose and began ministering to people on earth, I believe he had this incredible hold that always led people to wanting more of him. Yes, being the perfect Lamb, Jesus was physically attractive but there must be more reasons than that why men wanted to flock around him. Even kids, prostitutes, and thieves loved to be in his presence! I undoubtedly conclude how warmly they felt welcome and valued beside him. The presence of his deep compassion toward them then is the same profound concern that I feel whenever I go to Him in prayer. One of the few differences I have with people who had the privilege of literally beholding Christ was that they saw eye to eye the beaming hope ever present in his eyes. Also that, they had heard firsthand the words he’s spoken with authority which are full of comfort. I could imagine Jesus seeing the good things about these men and with sincerity telling them what would become of those who trust and follow the Lord. No hint of criticism blocked him away from the sinners who were hungry, tired, and troubled. VISION PROBLEMS
a sense of empathy for souls or concern over the visions set by our leaders. Even worse is the threat of developing an eye disease that could lead to spiritual blindness. But essentially, Christ wants and he enables us to have the kind of light in the eyes such as he had! THE LIGHT OF THE BODY Whatever gets our attention gets us. It’s been said that the eyes are our windows on the world. They are like cameras that focus on what is in front of us. “ Centuries earlier, Jesus said, “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, the whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness…” (Matt. 6:22-23) Short of saying, if we behold more of Christ and looked more upon his righteousness, our lives will be full of right and good works. On the other hand, our lives will be full of filth if we choose to focus and get exposed to the wastes of this world. CLEARLY COMPASSION People with blurry vision need eyeglasses or contacts so they can see clearly. If we are to become spectacles through which others can view God, we need to have a clear vision ourselves. Otherwise, how can the blind lead the blind? Guided by the Spirit, may we always see through the compassionate eyes of Christ. In the pursuit of service, it’s time to turn our concern from fears or reservations to seeking to do that which is pleasing to God. At the finish line, even this world will not measure or see us by how much we know or what we have, but with how much love we afforded to give.

Biblical Fasting ... from page 3 GENERAL PURPOSE: Fasting is done for one to come closer to God. All the following scriptures outline reasons for fasting that in general indicate that the purpose is to come closer to God. Verses which record the specific reasons for the fasts: Ezr 8:23 So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was entreated of us.
certain task. We fast to be spiritually prepared for the battles we are going to face as we take on our new tasks. Let’s begin with a little quiz on the subject of fasting: Who was the first person who fasted in the Bible? What was the longest length of time of a fast? Who were the three people who fasted for 40 days each? Now you probably knew that Moses was the first recorded faster in the Bible. And perhaps you also knew that the longest time of fasting was for 80 days Deu 9:9 When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water: Deu 9:18 And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer. We fast to entreat/plead with God for answers to our prayers. Mat 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. Mat 4:2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty We praise GOD for our new ministry that our Lord nights, he was hungry. Free At Last!
Pastor Teck Uy, President Filipino Ministerial Fellowship Toronto, Canada www.friendsofjesuschrist.com
There are those who live by the saying, “God forgives; I don’t”. They neither forgive those who offend them, nor do they forgive their own selves for the sins they commit. They live in constant condemnation and they are held captive by it. As such, they needlessly live a miserable life. Is there hope for these people? Certainly! The apostle Paul showed the way to freedom when he said, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:1-2). While the Scripture emphasizes that the one who sins is condemned to die - for the wages of sin is death - he who is in Christ Jesus has received the forgiveness of his sins. Having been forgiven, it is now imperative that he, in turn, forgive those who sin against him. For failing to do so, he remains under condemnation, because God will only forgive him to the extent that he has forgiven others of their sins. This truth was clearly presented by the Lord Jesus Christ when he taught his disciples how to pray. Part of the prayer says, “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven
our debtors”. Furthermore, Jesus said, “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins” (Matt. 6:915). Forgiveness, then, is the key to spiritual freedom - freedom from the law of sin and death that brought condemnation to men. While not forgiving others is bad enough, failing to forgive one’s self is even worse. One who fails to receive forgiveness for himself will continue to live in guilt and self-condemnation. Every time something bad happens, he will always associate it with his past sins. Thus, he aggravates his condition. The story of Joseph, the son of Jacob, beautifully portrayed this truth. For years the brothers of Joseph lived under self-condemnation. They were always haunted by the terrible sin of their youth when, full of jealousy, they sold their brother Joseph to some Ishmaelite traders who took him to Egypt. In Egypt, Joseph prospered; he rose from slavery to become the next in command to the king of Egypt. Meantime, his brothers barely survived because of the famine that swept the land of Canaan. While Joseph had long forgiven his brothers’ sins, his brothers could not forgive themselves. They often said to themselves, “Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw

Believers often face giving from the perspective of “what is this going to cost me?” God always reward obedience. Our mentality could be “what is this going to bring?” Scriptures details numerous rewards for the believers who give.
II. Giving brings protection against the devil. Malachi 3:11 ¢ The believer who will not give forfeits the protection of God. While the giver enjoys the protection of God from the devil. how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; that’s why this distress has come upon us” (Genesis 42:21). Even in their old age - when they already had children and grandchildren - they continued to be haunted by their sin. This fear was fully manifested when their father Jacob died. In the back of their minds, they believed that Joseph would get even with them once their father died. Though outwardly they seemed to be living in peace, there was always disturbance within them that made them restless: their guilt. To allay their fears, Joseph had to reassure them of his forgiveness, saying, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children” (Genesis 50:19-21). While the wages of sin is death, one does not need to die in order to be set free from condemnation. Initially, God provided the law that prescribed certain offerings to be presented to the Lord as a possible way out. However, this failed to completely set sinners free from condemnation. The apostle Paul noted, “For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son…in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us” (Rom. 8:3-4). Indeed, Jesus fulfilled the righteous requirement of the law - the shedding of blood - not by

of your sins and receive your forgiveness. Also, forgive those who have sinned against you. Just as you have forgiven others of their sins, God will forgive you of your sins and will set you free from the law of sin and death. At last, you are free - free from condemnation. Praise the Lord!
THE FIRST STEP TO HAPPINESS By: Pastor Arnold Arellano j. If you have to have everything perfect in your life before you’re happy, will you be happy? No. Jesus said, I want to teach you that happiness depends not on the right circumstances but it depends on the right attitudes. k. My happiness is not determined by what’s happening around me, but rather by what’s happening in me. l. For the next eight weeks we’re going to look at what that means. m. Jesus is saying, it’s not how much we have, it’s what we are that makes us happy. n. Happiness does not depend on the external, the atmosphere outside; it depends on the attitude inside. It is not determined by external circumstances; it’s determined by my internal attitude. These are the attitudes. o. Happiness is a choice. You choose the right attitudes. Basically right now, whether you’re happy or sad, or somewhere in between, you’re about as happy as you choose to be. Life is tough. p. There are a lot of things that don’t go right and don’t go your way in life. Happiness depends on choosing the right attitudes. q. Briefly, let’s look at the very first step, the very first attitude.
d. You have sinned, I’ve sinned, we all have. He’s not saying you run around putting yourself down all the time: “I’m lousy! I’m no good! I’m evil, wicked, bad and nasty!” e. What does it mean to be poor in spirit? It simply means to depend on God. He’s talking about humility, admitting that I don’t have it all together, realizing that I haven’t arrived, realizing that I haven’t learned it all, that I’m not the sum total of the universe, that I’m not perfect. f. The opposite of poor in spirit is arrogance or egotism. Jesus said if you’re full of arrogance and egotism you’re never going to be happy. The Good News Translation of this verse: “Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor.” g. They know they don’t have it all together, they know that they need God. Living Bible says, “Happy are the humble.” h. The point that Jesus is starting off with today is simply, humble and happy go together. Humility and happiness go together. i. They’re twins, soul mates. If you want to have lasting happiness then you need to learn to be humble. How can humility increase my happiness?
1. The first step to happiness is to be humble. Matthew 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” a. What does He mean 1. Humility reduces stress. When I’m humble by the poor in spirit? He’s not a. talking about low self esteem. I don’t have to have all the answers, I realize that the world b. He’s not talking about does not depend on me, I can putting yourself down all the resign as general manager of time. Jesus did not die for junk; the universe. He died for people. b. JESUS IS GOD By: Rev. Jack Wilson
Payatas Baptist Church, Quezon City email@example.com
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. The word is a plurality. Hebrew text has singular, duo and more than duo. The latter is the case here. Notice it says that God created the heaven and the earth. In the very next verse, the Bible shows the spirit of God making the creation happen. It said He moved upon the face of the waters. In Hebrew the translation is to “brood” as a chicken sitting on her eggs causing them to hatch. Now we go further into the New Testament where we read: Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: We are told ALL things were created by Him. So we either have massive confusion in the Bible which would nullify all Scripture or the three creators are one being. We first learn (other than by the term Elohim) that there is a Godhead with distinct characteristics when we read: In Gen 1:26 the Bible says: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: God said let US make = being that the angels had no hand in the creation nor could they as no one can create life except God Himself, we must
admit this is God speaking to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Additionally God is like none other and He would not put angels on His own level by suggesting that man would be created in part by them and also to have their attributes as well as God’s. Gen 1:27 affirms all this by saying: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. If God were speaking to Angels then that paragraph would have read So God and the angels created... yet nowhere is created man ascribed to the angels as being part of that creation. This is also confirmed in Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, The next point of proof will be found in this verse: Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. This was during the Tower of Babel problem. You will see here that God says to someone, Let US go down and confound there language. It would be like if I said to you, the reader, let us go down and get water from the stream. It implies that we would both participate in the action yet this next verse proves otherwise: Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad
Fellowship with the Father and the Son
If God was speaking to angels this verse would have said “so they” or “so God and the angels went down” yet the implication is only God went down, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I will now show that Jesus was an angel. I understand that the Jehovah Witnesses also believe that , but they think He was Gabriel, He was not Gabriel but He was an angel but don’t be upset because as a Pastor, I too am an angel. The word angel means prophet, priest or teacher and specifically, a messenger. While I am not a winged angelic being, I certainly am a teacher and a messenger bringing the word of God to others with counseling and Biblical teachings. Jesus, the third person of the trinity was also called the son of God and He was an angel dispatched on many occasions. This certainly was seen in the New Testament but many do not realize, He also appears in the Old Testament, many times. The first instance can be found in Gen 16:7 And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain. This is speaking of Hagar, when she ran away from Sarai. It says the “Angel of the Lord” found her. Who was this dispatched messenger? To find out we should examine what His words were. In Gen 16:10 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. Notice the claim being made- “I will multiply...” This claim could never been uttered by a simple angel such as winged ones or ones like me. Imagine me telling someone that I will multiply their seed. In

this day I would be ridiculed but in that day God might have struck me dead for assuming power and ascribing abilities only had by God, to myself. Of course if this “angel” or messenger was none other that Jesus, He would have the right and power of the third person of the Godhead to declare such things. I believe it is backed up in this next verse which reads: Gen 16:13 And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? She calls the “angel” Thou God seest me and states that she had looked on Him who seeth her. Now remember, no man has seen God and lived. That statement simply describes seeing God as the Father in all His greatness. None have seen the Holy Spirit but Jesus has been seen as Jesus in the N.T. And as the third person of the trinity in the old. Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Here it tells us that Jesus is the image of the invisible God. In Jesus own words: Joh 12:45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. By the way, that firstborn of every creature simply means He was before all. That include humans, Angels everything. He was the firstborn
true conversion. It shows that the power of our Lord’s Redemptive work is not manifested. This conditon displeases the Lord, so fellowship and intimacy is cut off. The results are misery, immaturity and spiritual bancruptcy. The Need Of Daily Confessions I John 1:8 was the author’s rebuke against the idea of Antinomianism. This is a belief that was prevalent in those days, which teaches that as long as a man is saved by grace thru faith, there is no obligation to obey the law. The other word for this is “ Lawlessness”.from the Greek word “anomia” meaning against the law. Being saved by Grace thru Faith is not a license for us to go back and walk in darkness. But it opens our eyes and hate sin and makes us realize that sin stinks. And sin is transgression of the law. (! John 3:4). Being saved justifies our security and its eternal. We have a responsibility to obey the law and live according to the standards and expectations of our Heavenly Father.
meaning He was born as Jesus and even though He was fully man through Mary, He was fully God through the impregnation of the Holy Spirit. Think of it this way, dogs have puppies, cats have kittens, humans have humans and God has God. How about this very clear proof? Moses went up the mountain to see the bush that burned but was not consumed and the word said: Exo 3:2-4 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: Now you know who I say the angel of the Lord is. Jesus Christ Himself. Can I prove it? Let’s look further. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. It went from the “Angel of the Lord” to The Lord to God calling Moses from the bush. And the wind up is: Exo 3:6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. Who was He in the bush? Well, He was very specific. He was the Angel of the Lord, the Lord, and the God of Moses’ father and the God of Abraham, the God of Isacc, and the God of Jacob. Moses was so afraid he hid his face as the Bible says he was afraid, to look upon GOD! see page 8
bring us back to condemnation stage. This is guaranteed and assured because of the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. On the other hand, our relationship with our heavenly Father s His children places us in position of responsibility to OBEY HIM as our heavenly Father. While our position in the Lord Jesus is secure, our fellowship is not. To secure this fellowship,we need to abide and live according to our Father’s will. Failure to live according to our Father’s standard will affect our fellowship with our Father. And if we sin, to restore this fellowship, our responsibility is to confess our daily sins and our Hevenly Father will honor this with His parental forgiveness (! The Pursuit of World Missions Rev Gerry G. Nable Bethany Baptist Church, Makati
Makati City Metro Manila, Philippines
Dear Brethren , Thank God for the opportunity to participate last Friday in the holding of the 1st World Missions Conference by our daughter Church in Paracale, Camarines Norte under the leadership of Pastor Wilfredo Chow. It was indeed a clear statement of their desire to pursue a worldwide vision in fulfilling the Great Commission, and be a blessing to a growing number of Missionaries both to the local and foreign fields. We thank God for the positive influence such step of faith in World Missions has done particularly to the Bicol Pastors who attended. There are a good number of these Pastors who have signified their decision to get on board and be counted. Let us pray that Missions partnership in this region of
Luzon would be more and more enhanced. My dear brethren, as we have been reminded last Wednesday Midweek service in Joel 3:13, we really need to “put ye in the sickle for the harvest is ripe.” We need to see and respond to the need for harvesters who will go forth into the world’s great harvest fields, and do the all important work of reaping. There must be the eyes of faith to recognize this spiritual harvest. It is truly plenteous and very valuable, and is ready and waiting to be gathered. The fact that the harvest is ripe implies that there is danger, that is, if it is not reaped soon, it will be lost. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself said in John 4:35, “Say not ye, there are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? Behold, I say unto you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” Jesus likewise said to His disciples in Matthew 9:37,
“The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few.” Praise God there are 7 more Missionary families for interview at the Asia Baptist Clearinghouse this Friday. With the acceptance of these co-labourers, we continue to move on in our Missions partnership, trusting God to increase our faith, and be faithful in our Faith Promise Missions Commitment. We thank God for the vital role of our Church Educational Ministries in the pursuit of the Great Commission which involves training and equipping believers and nurturing more labourers for effective service in God’s vineyard. What a great opportunity and blessing to involve our students even as part of their actual training in reaching-out our community through the Values Instruction Class Ministry in various schools. My dear Bethany brethren, let us consistently and faithfully wield the “sickle” of proclaiming the Gospel, praying for the salvation of precious souls and for more labourers in the harvest field, and persuading men to turn to Christ through our life
Shema Yisrael - What it means to us? By: Richard N. Sison
Shema Yisrael or simply called Shema (Literally means “Hear, [O] Israel”) are the first two words of a section of the Torah (First 5 books of the Bible) that is considered as a centerpiece of the morning and evening prayers among Jewish people. The first verse encapsulates the monotheistic essence of Judaism. Shema runs like this: S h e m a Yi s r a e l A d o n a i Eloheynu Adonai Echad. Baruch shem kevod malchuto L’olam va’ed Hear O Israel, the Lord is our God the Lord is one. Blessed is the name of his glorious kingdom for all eternity. Shema is considered as the most important prayer among the Jews and one of the oldest liturgies (over 3,000 years old) in Judaism. They would recite it twice a day, one in the morning and one before sleeping in obedience to Deut 6:7. The term “Shema” is used by extension to refer to the whole part of the daily prayers that

another in any part of the world. Shema is one of the sentences that are quoted in the New Testament. The Gospel of Mark 12:29 mentions that Jesus considered the Shema the beginning exhortation of the first of his two greatest commandments: “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, ‘Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord’” (KJV). Jesus also refers to the Shema in The Gospel of John 10:30. A group of Jews in the Temple in Jerusalem at the Feast of Dedication, or Hanukkah, asks him if he is Messiah, the anointed one of God. Jesus concludes his response with the words “I and To the Jews, other than being my Father are one” (KJV). This is an allusion to the Shema, which recited day and night, 1. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23 All, and therefore you, my dear Reader, and myself. We have sinned; that is, we have broken God’s law; for ‘There is none righteous, no, not one’ (Rom. 3:10). There is none that has kept the law of God. We have transgressed every precept of His moral law, either in act, word, or evil desire. The charge is heavy, but the verdict is true. Let us consider the case, earnestly entreating God to enlighten our minds. Take the ten commandments into your hand, and read. We have broken the first commandment, by trusting in and loving other things more than God. “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart” (Matt. 22:37). In this we have come short. The second respects the manner in which God is to be worshiped, not with outward form and ceremony, but in spirit and truth. Alas! how deficient have we been in that serious attention, that inward reverence, and that devout affection, which His worship required! God is a jealous God. You say you have never been guilty of profane cursing and swearing, and so think you have kept the third; but have you never in prayer, and in reading the sacred Scriptures, suffered the holy name of God to pass through your lips without an awful sense of what you were doing, or even without thought? “the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain” (Ex. 20:7). Have you always employed the whole Sabbath in those religious exercises which the fourth commandment enjoins; and performed those exercises in such a devout manner, that the law has nothing to charge you with, in thought, word, or deed? Sinner, lay your hand upon your mouth, and plead guilty. Need I go through the second table? Dost thou love thy neighbor as thyself? Hast thou done unto all men as thou wouldst they should do unto thee? Have you never been guilty of disobedience to your parents? Know ye not that every rising of causless anger is murder? (Matt. 5:22) that every unchaste desire is adultery? (Matt. 5:28) that every secret fraud and neglect of affording that succour to the poor which is in your power, is theft? That every uncharitable thought is a breach of the ninth, and every covetous wish a transgression of the tenth commandment? Surely all have sinned, in doing that which the law forbids, and in not doing that which the law commands. What have I then done; and what have I not done? All have sinned. What is my state? A state of sinfulness and misery. Why have I not felt it till now? Because sin hath blinded my eyes against the light of truth. Source: 16sermons.tripod.com
