Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway debuts at Disneyland Park on Jan. 27, 2023, as part of the Disney100 anniversary celebration – marking the frst time Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse star in a ride-through attraction at the Disneyland Resort. Located in the reimagined Mickey’s Toontown (reopening March 8, 2023), Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway transports guests into the whimsical world of Disney Television Animation’s Emmy Award-winning “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts. The attraction combines physical sets, Audio-Animatronics fgures, animated media and projection-mapping techniques, all synced with trackless vehicles and a jaunty musical score.
To experience Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, guests will be required to join the complimentary virtual queue*, which is only accessible via the Disneyland app.** Upon its grand opening, there will not be a standby line for this attraction. More information on the virtual queue system is available at Disneyland. com. Guests may also get quicker entry to this attraction with the purchase of an individual Lightning Lane arrival window, subject to availability.
Families begin their adventure inside the El CapiTOON Theater at Mickey’s Toontown for the premiere of a new “Mickey Mouse” cartoon short, “Perfect Picnic.” In the story, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse set off on a journey to fnd the best spot for a romantic picnic, taking their red convertible for a drive through Runnamuck Park. Little do they know, Pluto accidentally stowed away in the trunk of their car, so when the roadster hits a bump and the dutiful dog fies out … mayhem ensues. Disney magic then brings guests through the movie screen and into the cartoon world.
The queue inside the El CapiTOON Theater features a special exhibit created by the Toontown Hysterical Society called “Mickey Through the Ears,” which celebrates all things Mickey with costumes and props from classics like “Steamboat Willie” to modern favorites like “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.”
In addition to Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, the attraction is full of iconic Disney characters including Pluto, Goofy, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck and Pete. It also features Chuuby (pronounced “choo-bee”), a little bird created exclusively for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and destined to fy right into guests’ hearts.
Christopher Willis, Emmy Award-winning composer of the “Mickey Mouse” shorts, wrote “Nothing Can Stop Us Now,” the attraction’s exclusive theme song.
Guests are immersed in an all-encompassing environment and have the freedom to look in all directions. They may see different details depending on which vehicle they ride in and where they’re sitting within each vehicle.
Projections are used across multi-plane scenic fats and dimensional sets to provide depth of feld while still maintaining a cartoon aesthetic. Special painting techniques were used on the attraction’s ride vehicles so they appear to be hand-drawn.
The attraction features several sound effects created by Disney Legend Jimmy Macdonald for Disney animated shorts dating back to the 1930s; some new effects were developed using Macdonald’s original equipment. The tri-tone whistle from Mickey Mouse’s debut cartoon in 1928, “Steamboat Willie,” was used to record the locomotive whistle sound for Engineer Goofy’s train.
At Disneyland Park, the attraction takes place at the El CapiTOON Theater in Mickey’s Toontown, the land’s hometown theater and the place where Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and their friends ‘prem-ear’ all of their movies for its citizens. Because of the excitement for their new flm ‘Perfect Picnic,’ Minnie worked with the Toontown Hysterical Society to put an exhibit in the attraction’s queue.”
“To bring an experience to life starring two of our most important characters – especially at Disneyland Park, Walt Disney’s original park – is an incredible honor. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse uniquely embody a welcoming and comedic spirit, and celebrating that, as well as the silly antics they and their friends get into, makes this attraction one of the most fun around!”
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is full of nods to Disney history. It will likely take multiple rides through the attraction to spot them all. Examples include:
A newspaper features the headline “Oswald Wins!” – a reference to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the cartoon character created by Walt Disney that predates Mickey Mouse.
The Iwerks and Uwerks Waterworks water treatment plant is named for Disney Legend Ub Iwerks, the animator credited with sketching Mickey Mouse for the frst time.
The 1401 Flower Shop is an homage to Walt Disney Imagineering’s headquarters in Glendale, Calif.
The numbers 1901 and 1928 can be seen inside the attraction; these are references to Walt Disney’s and Mickey Mouse’s birth years, respectively.
A poster in the carnival scene references “5 for a Dime” tickets, a nod to the former Mickey’s Toontown Five & Dime shop.
Popcorn in the El CapiTOON Theater’s concession stand is shaped like Mickey, Minnie and Donald. The candy includes nods to favorite cartoons ranging from the Silly Symphony “The Grasshopper and the Ants” to cult classic “A Goofy Movie.”
The concession stand’s condiment pumps are branded “Begorra Orchards” – a reference to Patrick Begorra, the storied “Little Man of Disneyland” who, according to the 1955 Little Golden Book of that name, lived in an orange orchard on the land that Disneyland Park now sits on, and who now lives in the roots of a Disneyland tree.
Sharp-eyed guests may notice that posters in the El CapiTOON Theater’s foyer include cameos by rarely seen Disney characters, including Mortimer Mouse, Donald Duck’s costars in “DuckTales,” Minnie Mouse’s nieces, Mickey Mouse’s nephews and Max Goof’s classmates in “A Goofy Movie.”
“The special ‘Mickey Through the Ears’ exhibit in the attraction queue was Walt Disney Imagineering’s way of letting guests walk through Mickey Mouse’s evolution from the black-andwhite ‘Steamboat Willie’ to the highly stylized ‘Mickey Mouse’ cartoon shorts. It features iconic props, costumes and set pieces from Mickey’s long career in a way that only residents of Mickey’s Toontown would – look out for all those puns!”

Food and drink are an important part of the storytelling at Avengers Campus, an entirely new land opening June 4, 2021, at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California. Inside Avengers Campus, guests of all ages will be invited to team up with the Avengers and their allies to live out their Super Hero dreams. Guests will immerse themselves in many ways, from the epic attractions and heroic encounters to the food and beverage in this new land at Disneyland Resort.
The humor and whimsy of the Avengers and their heroic stories are apparent in delectable dishes that will be enjoyed by all. The Disneyland Resort food and beverage team collaborated with Walt Disney Imagineering to develop four new dining spots with unique stories and adventurous menus exclusively for Avengers Campus.
At Pym Test Kitchen, Ant-Man and The Wasp lead a team of food scientists as they pioneer a menu packed with inventive-sized entrees, tiny treats and shareable bites that provide the perfect “power up” for any hungry recruit. Here, the researchers are “shrinking problems and growing solutions,” and guests become a part of the Pym Technology experience as soon as they step into Pym Test Kitchen.
Just as Ant-Man and The Wasp used “Pym Particles” to grow and shrink just about anything, the Pym Test Kitchenapplies this innovative science to food creation. This unbound potential allows Pym Test Kitchen to showcase normal foods at unusual scales. For example, as guests watch the Pym food scientists at work in the kitchen lab, they will see a conveyor belt transport a regular-sized pretzel through a quantum tunnel – and it comes out super-sized!
Everyday foods touched by “Pym Particles” take on a hero-sized presence; red particles shrink the foods, and blue particles grow them. Guests will be able to taste-test foods including:s.
•An enlarged and shareable Quantum Pretzel is served warm with a sharp cheddar-beer sauce.
•For more of a meal, guests may opt for the Impossible™ Spoonful, plant-based large and micro meatballs with pasta served in a super-sized spoon with a tiny fork.
•The “Pym-ini” is a panini on toasted focaccia with salami, rosemary ham, Provolone and marinara dipping sauce, which can be served by the slice or as a long, multi-portion sandwich for a family or group.
• The Not So Little Chicken Sandwich features a delicious fried chicken breast with teriyaki and red chili sauces, pickled cabbage slaw and crispy potato bites.
• What goes well with all these items? A glass of Pingo Doce, the distinctly green beverage from Avenger lore that will only be available at Pym Test Kitchen in Avengers Campus.
• Guests may fancy the Proton PB&J Punch, a nonalcoholic specialty drink.
• Budding young scientists will enjoy experimenting with the classic PB&J Flavor Lab, which features a petri dish filled with peanut butter, jelly and bread that was shrunk by “Pym Particles.” Kids and young lab techs use a wooden spoon to build their own version of a PB&J.
• The Mini Pasta & Impossible™ Meat-balls and the Teeny Pym-ini are similar, shrunken-down portions of the adult
Pym Tasting Lab, which is adjacent to the Pym Test Kitchen, features an oversized beer can which signals that grown-up beverages are available. Scott Lang (Ant-Man) somehow convinced Hope Pym (The Wasp) that in the interest of science, they should also be experimenting on beverages.
This outdoor walk-up counter features eight craft beers, ranging from pilsner cold-fermented lager to an amber lager. Some of the beers will be poured from a reverse draft system which, thanks to food scientists, fills the glass from the bottom up.
In addition, guests may quench their thirst with four beer cocktail options. Favorites include The Regulator, a refreshing concoction of wheat ale with mango flavor and a spicy finish, and the Molecular Meltdown, which includes a marshmallow milk stout and vanilla ice cream topped with mini marshmallows.
Pym Tasting Lab also offers seasonal hard seltzers. One option is the Particle Fizz, which combines different seasonal seltzers along with cherry flavor bubbles. These alcoholic beverages will be served in souvenir beaker vessel that guests may take home with them. Guests may also opt for a Pint-Sized Pints Mini Beer Flight, which is four mini beer steins served on an enlarged ruler, another souvenir item for those who purchase the tasting flight.
The snacks at Pym Tasting Lab feature big flavors in a munchable, bite-sized snack. The Snack Molecules are a warm combination of sweet and savory micro popping grains with mini pretzels, honey-roasted peanuts and sweet & spicy
At Shawarma Palace, guests and heroes on the go can pick up their favorite shawarma-inspired snacks. Fans may recall that after the Battle of New York, the exhausted Avengers took Tony Stark up on his offer to try the food at the “shawarma joint” about two blocks from the battle zone. There at Shawarma Palace, the Avengers discovered their new favorite food. The Avengers loved the food so much that they invited the Shawarma Palace crew to open a food cart at Avengers Campus.
Shawarma Palace, decked out with memorabilia for Avenger fans, offers hand-held savory wraps for heroes on the go. New York’s Tastiest, is filled with fragrant chicken shawarma and garlic spread and coconut yogurt-tahini sauce, served with pickled vegetables. The Impossible™ Victory Falafel is a plant-based falafel wrap served with pickled vegetables.

The Collector, Taneleer Tivan, did not limit his collection to lovable misfits; he is also curating a weird and wonderful menu of intergalactic eats at Terran Treats, a food cart near Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Here, guests will find the Sweet Spiral Ration, churro spirals with unique colors and flavors, and the Cosmic Cream Orb, a crispy cream puff with whipped raspberry cheesecake mousse.
