Strategies: 1 ) establish grade control, 2) reduce streambank erosion, 3) facilitate sediment transport, 4) provide for irrigation diversion structures, 5) enhance fish habitat, 6) maintain width/depth ratio, 7) improve recreational boating,

8) maintain river stability, 9) dissipate excess energy, 10) withstand large floods, 11) maintain channel capacity, 12) be compatible with natural channel design, 13) be visually acceptable to the public.

PRUITT IGOE

Crystal sponge VS Plants

In 1956 The Pruitt Igoe residential complex was honored as "the best high-riseapartment" of the year. However, Pruitt Igoe became the slum of the city and the epicenter of poverty and crime. On March, 1972, the Pruitt Igoe experiment was officially declared a failure as the first of the 33 towers was imploded. Eventually the site was largely cleared of debris and left only with the ruins of a dream and the seeds of a second nature -its boundaries defined by chain link and barbed wire to discourage a curious public.

As one looks back to St Louis at its prime, the city was full of life, the streets were vibrant and bustling, the neighborhoods were full of people and activity. However, the situation now is completely opposite. Six decades of urban decay have left the city of St. Louis with some of America's most devastated urban landscapes. The community around Pruitt Igoe, is full of empty and vacant lands and houses. wasted 20.6 million gallons of

On Sunday, July 5th in Urumqi, the capital of China's western Xinjiang region, thousands of minority ethnic Uighur residents marched, demanding a government investigation into an earlier incident ---a brawl between Han Chinese and Uighurs in a toy factory in Shaoguan that ended with at least two Uighur deaths. Sometime during the July 5th protest the situation became very violent, Uighurs clashing with police and attacking local Han Chinese. Urumqi citizens woke the next morning to learn that over 1,000 people had been injured and 156 killed in their city.

Circulation analysis

The design combines the convenient path for Han Chinese and the worship direction for Muslim so that there will be no conflict. I highlight the two worship directions and try to display understanding and respect for Muslim as close as they can feel. Meanwhile I draw a clearly line that some of religious affairs has to be relatively close space. This also intends to ease conflict and create harmony circumstance. In the end, each nation shares many activities together; I use this as a major joint and hope to guide people to believe the probable union.

Overlapping spaces & Topography

Master plan A

Flatten/Will Flatten: Multiformity of Nature. A

SOUTH

Flatness is a abstract way to express nature. When we see natural elements like ocean, desert, prairie and clound, we are engulfed by the sublime of flatness. They are all "uniform" as well as "multiform". The paintings of Mark Rothko are also labled as "flatness" because he painted layer by layer and condensed all the layers. His paintings are so simple but intrigue viewers' subtle emotions. It is said that his paintings make people weep in front of it. B
