HOLIDAY | 2013

>>> Manager’s Message

Glad to Be in Gladden Farms By Kristina Allen, Community Manager

As 2013 starts to wind down, activity in the community is at an all time high. We have completed several large projects including rock replenishment, playground improvements, paving of walking paths and fence, railing and monument painting and are gearing up for a very busy holiday season full of community events.

Starting with this edition of the community magazine we will be spotlighting families within the community and the aspects of the neighborhood they love and cherish. We invite all of you to contact Shannon Pate, in the Association office and submit your thoughts so your family can be featured as well.

2014 should be a very exciting year throughout the community as well with continued new construction, the completion of homes within the Flor de Algodon neighborhood and an expanded Lifestyle activity calendar. To ensure that management is ready for the upcoming year we have added Jayne Kelly as your new Covenants Coordinator and Shannon Pate as Lifestyle Director for the community. It is a pleasure to say your onsite management team is fully staffed and looking forward to the new year.

In many communities interaction with your neighbors may be as little as a wave while pulling out of the driveway, or a simple hello while picking up mail. In Gladden Farms there are so many other opportunities to get to know your neighbors and to foster the sense of community that harkens to another time, back when there were block parties, when families gathered in the yard or on the porch and enjoyed the cooler evening weather and invited neighbors for a swim or a BBQ. Here, in your community, you can enjoy a fall evening listening to music, watching the kids trick or treat and climb a rock wall or jump for hours in an inflatable. You can bring the kids out to a Spring Celebration and Egg Hunt held in your very own neighborhood. Gladden Farms is more than just a MasterPlanned Community it is a network of neighbors who all value relationships with each other and the relationships we have built with the Town and local business partners.

Since returning to the community in April I have had the opportunity to work closely with several of our volunteer committee members. One overwhelming theme of our conversations and a statement heard many times is, "We are so glad to be in Gladden." I have always felt that Gladden Farms was a unique community that felt like home and to hear that echoed in the sentiment of many of the volunteers who devote their time and talents to enrich the neighborhood and the Your next opportunity to build relationexperience of those living within it was ships and create a cherished family heart warming and it got me thinking. memory will be the return of a Gladden Farms signature event‌ the

We look forward to seeing you there!

Giving Thanks to Volunteers We have all been in situations where we feel like there are simply not enough hours in the day to get all of the work we have to do done. The month of October was a perfect example of this for your management staff. Budgets needed to be completed, Annual Meetings of the Members needed to be planned and held, day-to-day operations needed to be managed and the largest event in the history of the community was held. Throughout the year, and especially in times like those, we are blessed to have the support of resident volunteers. Volunteers serve the community in many capacities and on November 11 management hosted a thanksgiving feast to show our appreciation. The Heritage House was filled with the aroma of home cooking and festive conversation and we would also like to take this opportunity to recognize those volunteers with the community at large.

Upcoming Events Lifestyle Open House Help us plan the 2014 Event Calendar! If you are interested in getting involved in events like the Fall Festival, we invite you to join the Gladden Farms Lifestyle Committee! We will be hosting a Lifestyle Open House on December 4th, from 6pm-7pm at the Gladden Farms Community Association office at 12375 N Heritage Park Drive. The committee would like to hear from you. What type of events would you like to see in 2014? There are many different ways for you to get involved in all the fun! If you would like to attend a meeting sooner than our Open House, please join us for our next meeting on November 6th at 1pm at the Association Office, as we kick off the planning for our upcoming holiday events! Please contact Shannon Pate if you have any questions or would like to get more information on how you can get involved within your Gladden Farms community! 520-682-1357 / spate@ccmcnet.com. Winter Wonderland Winter is right around the corner and with it the return of a tradition in the community. The Gladden Farms Winter Wonderland is scheduled for December 14, 2013. We hope that you will join us for an amazing morning filled with family fun as you watch kids sled down a snow hill, visit arts and crafts vendors for those last minute holiday purchases and enjoy some sweet fare from local food trucks. This event will be held in the basin to the south of the well site on Lon Adams between Moore Rd and Gladden Farms Drive from 10 AM to 1 PM and parking is available along Lon Adams. This year will feature two slightly higher sled hills with safety railings and an area of snow for the little ones to play in undisturbed. Your Lifestyle Committee and management team hope that you save the date and make plans to enjoy the return of this signature event to Gladden Farms. Bundle up, don't forget gloves or mittens and something to slide on and we will see you there! Breakfast with Santa An iconic moment in almost all holiday movies is when kids are waiting in the very long line at the mall for a picture with Santa. Trying to stay clean and patient while waiting in what can be a never-ending line is hard for some adults let alone kids who are excited for their chance to see the big guy in red. This year you are invited to not only change up your photo opportunity but to join Santa for a pancake breakfast! Join Lifestyle volunteers and management staff (AKA The elves) for a more personal opportunity to visit with Santa on Saturday, December 21 at the Heritage House. As you enter you will be greeted, checked in and the family will visit with Santa in front of the large stone fireplace decorated for holiday pictures. Then you will move to the dining room where you can enjoy a great pancake breakfast with another visit from Santa, this time bearing a small gift!

Reservations are required for this event and there is a small fee of $5.00 per person. Times available are: 7:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM. To ensure the personal atmosphere each time is limited to a small number of participants so please RSVP no later than December 6 by contacting Shannon Pate at (520) 682-1357 or by email at spate@ccmcnet.com. The 2013 Clark W. Griswold Award As the weather turns cooler and days get shorter one thing is for certain‌ the holidays and larger electricity bills are right around the corner! If you have a flare for decorating and a love for over the top displays we invite you to participate in the 2013 Holiday Lighting Contest. Once you have decorated your home please contact the Association office at 520-682-1357 or by completing the Holiday Lighting Contest form on the community website (www.gfcalifestyle.com) and management will add your home to the ballot. Then between December 9 and December 13 the community can vote for their favorite. The winner will be announced at the Winter Wonderland on December 14. Founder's Day The Marana Heritage Conservancy will host its annual Founder's Day celebration in March of 2014 and has invited Gladden Farms to participate in the annual parade. After months of hard work from your management staff and Lifestyle Committee, we were able to bring you a bigger event full of fun, new attractions. The many food trucks that attended worked hard to provide a variety of delicious food fare. Here Come the Holidays Tips for Surviving and Thriving By Charlene Clement Don't you just hate it when somebody says, "Here come the holidays-I know I'll eat too much at all the parties and never find time to exercise? I'll be so stressed running all over trying to find just the right gift, and then I'll have to go on a diet and feel terrible!"? Let's change that this year and have some really happy holidays! Just like every winning team (that's you), you gotta have a game plan and a knowledgeable coach. Arm yourself daily with a good, protein-filled breakfast. (Protein will stay with you and keep you full longer than any other food). Actually, for every meal, be sure you get lots of protein. When you get hungry and it's not meal time, think nuts (any kind). They are really abundant during the holidays; have a few. Also, fresh fruits are terrific! Think apples, oranges, plums, pears, kiwi and grapes. If you freeze some grapes, they're a great snack! When the big Thanksgiving meal comes, take out your game book and go for your best defense. Fill up on vegetables, have as much turkey as you'd like (without gravy), skip the rolls and then have a small slice of Aunt Betty's homemade pecan pie (you deserve it!).

14

GLADDEN FARMS LIVING MAGAZINE | www.gfcalifestyle.com

COMMUNITY NEWS The tryptophan in the turkey will make you a little groggy, so I suggest a nice, relaxing walk around the block followed by your favorite football game-stress free. Now, you have gotten to the 50 yard line. Don't let your guard down now! You really need to continue that abundant protein at every meal. You, also need quick and easy meals after a long, hard day of work. It's Friday, December 6, the first party of the Holiday Season. You're doing great. You have a winning game plan. You've had a very good day, so let's party! But, don't let your guard down-all those appetizers and drinks can be very destructive. Our first line of defense is to make yourself a min-meal before you leave the house. No, it doesn't have to be that major-apple slices with almond butter and some nuts---you're set! At the party, try a club soda with a splash of wine. It's really good, very refreshing and you'll play your best game. When it comes to noshes, same as your game plan-stick to veggies, fruits and proteins. Tomorrow you won't be fraught with "oh why did I eat that?" So, the season merrily reaches Christmas and the New Year. You've given yourself the best Christmas present ever. You've crossed that elusive goal line with the help of your ever-present coach. Give me a call and together we'll win this and all the games! Charlene Clement is the owner of Good Health Coach and a Gladden Farms resident. She can be reached at 267.243.9304.

John Coppin: The Magic of Gladden Farms If anyone over 30 years ago would have told John Coppin that he would be a professional Magician he probably would have said yes if the stars are correct and all the other professional magicians die off. Then he would become a professional Magician and Entertainer. But yes today John Coppin is a proficient, highly thought of, Magician and popular entertainer. Originally from Green Bay, WI where he went to Preble High School where a very watchful guidance counselor saw in John a budding performer who just needed the proper guidance. So he was able to convince John to apply for a position at a local Department Store, H.C.Prange Company for a Christmas job where John would be the Magic Magician of Christmas. Well John got the job and saw a new future from a early beginning where a family friend showed him a simple coin vanish and many visits to his local library where he read incessantly all the books the old library had in stock. Now he could use this knowledge to start entertaining people and making the magic happen in public. After the brief engagement at the Department Store John was able to perform quite often in school since the teachers found him able to fill time when there was no real subject to cover they would have John entertain and his talent grew to where he actually started to do small shows locally for many groups and families. Fast forward to 1980 when John, having graduated with a degree in Marketing/Sales from the local Technical Institute found that using this knowledge would help in making his magic even more marketable so he took on the unenviable job of becoming a professional magician. Thru trial and error and an always increasing want to improve he has grown since that point to the professionalism he radiates today, be it working close up performing with cards, coins and small magic to seeing him perform in front of a very pleased birthday magic show audience to a large group watching him perform his Illusion Show and making the audience believe at least for the length of his show that magic really does exist, if only in their hearts and minds. He has started a very popular series of Magic Classes, both interactive and entertaining; his classes are always fun, magical and fill up quickly. He has worked here in Tucson with the CEP program for the past 6 summers being a part of the SAFE program, teaching magic to the students, he also has worked with the Marana Park and Recreation department in various classes teaching magic as well. John has been a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of American Magicians plus the International Society of Magic and recently made a

member of the Academy of Magical Arts; also known as the famous Magic Castle in Hollywood California. He was most recently the president of the local magic club in Tucson. He and his wife Carol have lived in Gladden Farms for over 5 years in Marana to enjoy their lives, and plan on many years living here in the Tucson area but will travel anywhere to make magic happen for any group or event. "Living here in Gladden Farms has been a great pleasure, Autumn Ridge is a very quiet but friendly part of the community. Carol and I moved here with the intent of finding the perfect home for us. Carol had lived here in Tucson over 10 years ago, and had always hoped to move back here. Our realtor had first showed us a home in another section, but due to it being a short sale we lost out on that one. The home we now live in on Case Way was a great next selection. Our neighbors are really nice and even watch our home when we travel north to Wisconsin to visit family and friends. We feel a simple "magic" from living in a great community here in Gladden Farms." Contact John at 1-520-301-8787 for the magic to happen for you. Also his website will help with information as well, www.johncoppinmagic.com. GLADDEN FARMS LIVING MAGAZINE
