AUSTRALIA Today, Australia has a population of nearly 23 million people. At 2009, about 25.6 percent of the estimated resident population comprised those born overseas. Migrants have enriched almost every aspect of Australian life, from business to the arts, from cooking to comedy and from science to sports. They, in turn, have adapted to Australia’s tolerant, informal and broadly egalitarian society. Eight Australian institutions made it into the top 100 - 23 are in the top 500 of the best universities in the world. Graduates from Australia are very successful in finding jobs, English is the national language; however, languages other than English are also valued. In fact, more than 15 percent of Australians speak languages other than English at home. The most commonly spoken languages after English are Italian, Greek, Cantonese, Arabic, Vietnamese and Mandarin. Australia is a dynamic, vibrant country and its people are energetic, friendly and confident. Multicultural Australia is a safe, friendly, sophisticated and harmonious society which offers its citizens a high quality of life.
