MEET THE OWNER of Occasionette Store

Sara Villari is the owner and creative director of Occasionette. Prior to opening the first shop in 2013, Sara was one of the first employees at Etsy.com, working as a community manager and teaching makers how to turn their crafts into a career. Her parents told her she wasn't allowed to go to art school, so she tricked them and earned a degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia instead. When she's not working, you can usually find her giggling with her two tiny daughters or putzing around in her gardens.

About Occasionette -

Occasionette is a curated gift shop, opening the doors at its first shop in 2013 on South Philly's East Passyunk Avenue. The shop has grown substantially over the years and now boasts one of the city's largest selections of independent cards and gifts. In the summer of 2017, a flagship location (twice as big as the first!) in the heart of nearby Collingswood, NJ finally opened. And a third location opened in fall of 2022 at the top of the hill in Philly's Chestnut Hill neighborhood. Occasionette's mission is to make gifting fun and easy, while being an asset to its communities.

Three merchandising tips and tricks to keep in mind when ordering candles -

1 - Know where your candles are going as you place your order. Will they be on the front table? If so, will they make an impact or are they a fresh, new collection? It sounds deceptively easy, but planning and knowing exactly where each collection will be displayed will help inform your buying and will make it easier to merchandise (and sell!) when the order arrives.

2 - Don't be afraid to mix and match collections as part of the story you're telling on your table or shelf. One reason we love Paddywax so much is that it all plays so well together - we love picking a statement collection (like Aura!) and pairing it next to a basket full of smaller candles (like Beam) or a stack of taper boxes (and chances are they'll all look great next to pretty much anything from the Designworks catalog!). This is a great way to incorporate different price points and types of candles onto the same table or display.

3- If you're going to do a wall of candles (vs. merchandising them in with books or lifestyle items to fit a theme), make sure there's some rhyme or reason to how you're organizing the wall. We love a rainbow display at Occasionette! ROYGBIV forever! You can group candles by vessel color to make a color statement, otherwise it's important to make the wall look cohesive by keeping full collections together and collections that compliment each other next to each other, then peppering in some accessories, like matches and wick trimmers to break it up visually.

How to REPURPOSE

To fully remove the wax in the vessel we recommend the following method: 1. Place the used vessel in the fr eezer overnight.
