If this interests you and could serve your family, contact Suzanne DuVall at Foundation Scholarship Recipients The Brentwood UMC Foundation is pleased to announce the following winners of its 2012-2013 scholarships: Mallory Glasgow, Jennifer Johnson, Sara Rains, Katherine Schenck. The BUMC Foundation awards four scholarships each year to active members of BUMC. At least three of the renewable scholarships go to graduating high school seniors and the fourth is available for college students returning for graduate studies. Step Up to Connect BUMC Concert Series Presents the Maryland State Boychoir Sunday, August 5 - 8:30 and 11:00 am worship choir, 2:00 pm concert, Narthex This superb choir will be presenting this concert as a part of its week-long tour. They will perform a wide variety of choral music, from sacred masterworks to gospel. The concert is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be received. Host Homes Needed for the Maryland State Boychoir Saturday, August 4 The Maryland State Boychoir will be arriving in Brentwood on Saturday, August 4, and will be in need of host homes for the night. Mission Study on Haiti, sponsored by the United Methodist Women Saturday, August 25, 8:00 am - 12:00 noon, Haney Hall, Led by Joyce Clark This year’s United Methodist Women mission study is about Haiti. We’ll see how Haiti’s history was influenced by U.S. diplomacy and policy; learn how the United Methodist Church has been a presence in Haiti before and after the 2010 earthquake; and discover the hope for Haiti’s future and some of the ways that it can be fulfilled as well as hindered. Mentors needed for K-5th Graders at 61st Avenue UMC Tutoring begins Tuesday, August 28 and is held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 - 5:30 pm. Mentoring Orientations for potential new volunteers are on Tuesday, August 14, from 4:00 - 5:30 pm, Wednesday August 15, 10 - 11:30 am and Thursday, August 16, from 10 - 11:30 am. Better Decisions Mentors: A Rewarding Experience for Women Better Decisions, a nonprofit organization that teaches decision-making skills to inmates at the Tennessee Prison for Women, needs volunteers for the next “Better Decisions” class. harvest hands ( Harvest Hands is a catalyst for Christ-centered, wholistic community development working alongside our neighbors to further healthy living, education, spiritual formation and economic development in South Nashville Kindergarten - 4th Grade Volunteers August 13 - May 23: Once a week commitment, Monday-Thursday from 3:45-6:00 and Friday 3:45-5:00. Volunteers will help with homework, facilitate learning activities and build relationships with students. 5th - 12th Grade Volunteers August 13 - May 23: Once a week commitment, Monday-Thursday from 3:45-6:00 and Friday 3:45-5:00. Volunteers will assist in the daily implementation of the program, mentor students and help with homework. Individuals available with specific subject expertise to tutor also needed.
