Concept: Ignite to Illuminate The intent of this design is to create a space that ignites its users in four ways. Ignite Education, Ignite Surroundings, Ignite Individuality and Ignite Connections. Drawing a metaphorical connection to the process of igniting we were able to spatially divide the building into 5 zones. Activator (faculty, or administration), Fuel (mental and physical wellness spaces, cafe and gym), Spark (causal learning environments, social spaces, experiential learning), Flame (lecture, typical classrooms, library), Glow (community connections and self reflection). These spaces will be guided by a central Flame and will then radiate out into it‘s spark, fuel, activator in one direction and will glow in the other. DISCOVERY

Existing Floor Plan: Shown on the right, the existing floor plan shows the whole first floor of the school. In total, 1300 students attend J.C. Harmon High School. The focus area that my partner and I focused on were the classrooms and the administration section of the building. When looking at the classrooms, the idea behind it was to create a node that would fully encompass the idea of Kolb’s learning theory. As it stands now, some students and teachers would have to pass through one classroom to get to the place they needed to go. This would all change once the renovation took place.
