INVESTIGATION

Saturday, November 5, 2011

INTRODUCTION Situation: SWA is losing more and more students each year and that shows that SWA enrollment is down. Most probably, people get attracted to another school because it’s not that expensive unlike SWA. If no one is told about SWA, the school will not meet its budget and the school will have to shut down. Task: This term, my task is to make an attractive advertisement to advertise SWA so that more people will get to know SWA. The advertisement also have to include the good things about SWA.

AOI (Areas of Interaction) For this project, the areas of interaction is Human Ingenuity. I have to be creative in this project because i will have to make an advertisement to advertise SWA. I also have to meet my client requirement. My client are students and parents from another school. I will have to investigate, design, plan, create and evaluate it.

Client interview( adult-parent) ME: What kind of school do you want your child to go in to? P : I obviously want my child to go to a good school that have good teachers, good facilities and good activities too. I also want them to mix with good friends and not friends that can influence to do bad stuff. The teachers in the school have to be Caucasians so that they can speak english everywhere they go in the school area. I don’t really want my child to have lots of Indonesian friends because if they have indonesian friends, they tend to speak more indonesians rather than speaking english. So, my main point here is, i want my child to speak fluent english. Subjects in the school is also important. I don’t want my child to do subject that is unnecessary. ME: What is your budget for the tuition fee? P: I don’t have any budget for the tuition fee. As long as my child is in a school, it doesn’t matter how much the tuition fee is.However, if it cost really really expensive and i can’t afford to pay for the school, I obviously won’t put my child in that particular school.

Client Interview (parent and student) Me: Do you know anything about SWA? P : Yes, I do know a little bit about SWA. If i’m not wrong, SWA is a very expensive school. However, SWA is a very big school. Me: what do you expect to see in a school? S: Well, I want to have fun activities in my school and I want nice teachers who don’t always scold their students. Me: What kind of school attracts you and make you want to study there? S: I want my school to have a nice building not like those building which look really old as if it’s going to collapse anytime soon. And of course, schools with good facilities. Good facilities mean nice furniture, nice gym, have swimming pool in the school.

Saturday, November 5, 2011

Client summary From the interview, I know that my client need a good school. Caucasian teachers in the school is also important because they want someone who can teach their children to speak good english. The school also have to provide subjects that are necessary like English, Math, Chinese, Science and other subjects. Facilities provided in the school is also as important for both parents and student. Both parent and student wish that the facilities like the furniture, swimming pool is in good condition. I also find out that tuition fee for the school doesn’t really matter as long as the school is good and give good education to their children. Students also want to have various kind of activities. One of the things i realize from parent is that they do know something about SWA but the only thing they know is the cost of the tuition fee. I think in this advertisement, I have to advertise the various kind of activity that SWA provide.

Design Stage By Jessica

Saturday, November 5, 2011

DESIGN 1 pro - lots of information - picture showing SWA - tells the information about the school (address) cons - boring -lots of words -not colorful (will not attract students but probably it will attract parents)

Saturday, November 5, 2011

DESIGN 2 pro - lots of information - simple cons - hard to make the end product - opening is plain and boring - should put some achievement that students had achieve to attract more people.

Saturday, November 5, 2011

DESIGN 3 pro - simple - the ending shows is good because it shows the address of the school - lots of information cons - looks similar to the first one - hard to make the end product because this is the video

Saturday, November 5, 2011

DESIGN 4 pro - simple - there’s pictures that makes it interesting cons - not much information - hard to make the end product because this is suppose to be a website -it looks ugly - too common

Saturday, November 5, 2011

DESIGN 5 pro - lots of picture - there’s a video of the school (not common ) cons - very little information - boring - hard to make the end product

Saturday, November 5, 2011

DESIGN 6 pro - lots of information about swa - lots of picture -not boring cons - address of swa is not stated

Saturday, November 5, 2011

design 1 - 6 The first design is a newsletter. I think the newsletter has lots of information about SWA, which i think is good. There’s also a picture of SWA and i think client will have more interest in joining the school after looking at that picture. However, the client for this whole project is student and parents. This newsletter looks really boring which i think student will lose interest if they see this newsletter. The second design is a storyboard of a video. The video have lots of information like events in SWA, teachers of SWA and other things like that. It is simple. However, it is going to be quite difficult to do the end product.Maybe to make this video, it will take longer that the time given. The video should state some of the achievement that students had achieve. The third design is the second storyboard of a video. This storyboard look quite similar to the first storyboard and it has nothing special on it. The only different thing from the first video is the sequence of the video. This video also have lots of information. I think this video will help to attract more clients like students and parents.

Saturday, November 5, 2011

The fourth design is the design of a website. The website is simple and I think like the previous designs, this design also have lots of information. There’s also pictures that make it looks interesting. To make this website, I think it will take a while and it will obviously exceed the deadline. It’s also too common. The second last design is the second design of website that i made. I think this website is better than the first one. There’s lots of picture but not much information written. What makes it better is that, there’s a video in the website. To make the end product, it will obviously take longer that the time given by mr brian. Last but not least, is the last newsletter. I think this newsletter is also better than the first one. Theres’s lots of picture and lots of information like events happening in SWA. It’s not common and not boring. I think this newsletter will attract parents and students and i think i ca finish the newsletter before the deadline.

Saturday, November 5, 2011

Peer evaluation I like Jessica's 6th design because it has a wide space to put information about SWA, and various views of the school. Also, if she puts colors then, it will be very fancy. Then the children will read it because of the attractiveness.I think the parents will also find this newsletter interesting. However, I think the top part of the newsletter look so boring if she can add something to it, it will look better. The newsletter letter contain lots of information about the school. Therefore I want her to use the design for her final design. (Do Young)

Saturday, November 5, 2011

Final design DESIGN 6 I chose the last design which is the 6th design. I didn’t really change it because i think the first one is good enough. I chose this because i think this newsletter is attractive enough to attract parents and students. My friend, do young, who did the peer evaluating for me also think that the last design is the best than any other design . I change a little bit for the final design, I put a date on it and the school address at the bottom of the newsletter.

- Was the plan was detailed enough and why? I think my plan is detailed. I have already draw the instruction needed in step by step. For example, the first step is to take or find pictures of the school and the second step is to transfer the pictures into my laptop. - Could it be followed by someone else ? I think it could easily be followed by someone else. Because the instructions given in the step by step is clear and easy to understand. Even for someone who don’t understand english can understand because the instruction given is mostly pictures and not words. - Have I used all the resources available to me? I used some of the resources given to me but obviously, i need to use all the resources given.

Create Stage

Saturday, November 5, 2011

Day 1 (october 3, 2011) On October 3 2011, Monday, I’ve started my create stage. In the plan stage, I created a step-by-step worksheet which shows what I’m suppose to do in the create stage. In the first part of the create stage, I have to find pictures and not only find, I also have to take pictures of the school for my newsletter/poster. I search for pictures in the internet and also take pictures of the school.

Day 2 (October 7, 2011) The next step of the create stage is put the files into my laptop. Since, I’ve already done that, so I decided to find information for my newsletter. For the first section of the newsletter, (what’s happening this month?) I went to the website of week without walls because we had just finish our field trips. In this website, it got the information that I needed about the field trips because the teachers have been posting things up about the trips. So, I looked up at all of the posts and make a short summary of it so that I can put the information in the small section of the newsletter. Saturday, November 5, 2011

Day 3 (October 8, 2011) After finding a bit of information for the newsletter, I started making the background of the newsletter. From the sketch that I made, this is what I came up with. It is just a blank piece of newsletter, I didn’t really do anything to it yet because I’ve just started making the newsletter. I will probably change the color of the background because I think the background looks boring.

Day 4 (October 11, 2011) Today, I decided to put a little information to the newsletter. The information is about the field trips. And I put the information in the small section of the newsletter called “what’s happening in this term/month?” So, after I finish doing the summary of the field trips and putting the information in the newsletter, I decided to find pictures of the field trips to make the newsletter more interesting. However, I haven’t put any pictures to the newsletter. I think I will put the pictures next lesson. Maybe, in the next 3-4 lessons, I will finish the whole newsletter. Saturday, November 5, 2011

Day 5 ( October 13, 2011) The next step in the create stage is finding pictures for the first section and after putting picture sin the newsletter, I’m going to start doing the second section in the newsletter which is “events happening in SWA” These are some of the images that I’m going to put in the newsletter. I got this images from week without walls website.

Day 6 (October 14, 2011) This is only the first part of the newsletter. The second part of the newsletter, i’m just going to find pictures of the events that already happen in SWA. I think in the next two post, I will be able to finish the whole newsletter and it’s ready to be printed. I just have to combine the pictures and the information together and into one newsletter.

These are only some of pictures that i got from the school’s website. Saturday, November 5, 2011

I decided to find pictures for the next part of the newsletter. It’s not really that hard to find pictures for the newsletter because it’s all available in the school’s website. So, I went to the school website and found some pictures of events that already happened in SWA.

October 17, 2011 (Day 7) After finishing the second section, I did the very last part of the newsletter. The information I got for the last section also came from SWA website. Even the pictures also come from SWA website. I combine all of that to one section and this is the final result of the newsletter.

October 24, 2011 (Day 8) I’ve finish creating the poster. After creating the poster, I asked my friend for opinion and this is what my friend thought about my poster. Do Yeon - I like your SWA poster because it’s simple and neat. I like the pictures and the position of each pictures. I also like the part where you wrote the contact information at the bottom of the poster. However the main header seems too small and the header is not really eye-catching.

Saturday, November 5, 2011

October 27, 2011 (Day 9) I have finished the newsletter and I ask another friend about their opinion to my newsletter. Do Young – I like you newsletter because your newsletter have lots of information and it is also interesting because there’s lots of pictures. The newsletter is organized. Jenny - I think your newsletter is very informative and detailed, but also easy to understand. Its appealing to both parents and students, because the interesting images support the newsletter. I like the fact that it seems like the newsletter's target audience is both SWA students and non-SWA students. If i'm a student outside of SWA i would be interested to enter after seeing your newsletter.

Text

October 28, 2011 (Day 10) I asked candice for her opinion on my newsletter. Candice : I think overall both aesthetics and pictures are great. The information is very detailed as well. What I think what you could have improved is shorten the information into sentences or make the size of the font bigger.

Evaluation by Jessica

Saturday, November 5, 2011

Evaluating my performance at Each Stage of the Design Cycle Investigation -> The goal of this project is to create an interesting SWA advertisement to attract parents and students from other school and also people who did not know that SWA exist. In my investigation is mostly researching on what kind of advertisement that is usually used for school advertisement. I also find parents expectation of a school to get an idea of what kind of things that will attract them to a school. I did some brainstorm for the advertisement. After all, I think I did quite well in this investigation because I did what I’m supposed to do in the investigation stage. Design -> The client told me that the school that they want their child to go or they want to go if the school have good facilities so in my six designs i tried to put pictures of our school. And then, I try to think of the pro and cons of each designs. I also evaluated my designs. After that, I ask one of my friends to choose the best design and why they choose that design. Then, I chose the final design because I think that’s the best design that I made. I think I didn’t really did well in the designs because the designs that I made look similar to each other. Plan -> In the plan section, I planned out my time and the steps to follow when making the advertisement. The gantt chart shows how I planned my time by showing how much time I will spend in each step. I have to make sure that I will finish making the advertisement before the deadlines. After making the gantt chart and the step by step, I evaluate and some of the questions are: Was the plan was detailed enough and why? Could it be followed by someone else ? and also Have I used all the resources available to me?

Saturday, November 5, 2011

Evaluating my performance at Each Stage of the Design Cycle Create -> Create stage is all about making the newsletter. However, every lesson, I have to do documented evidence to show what I have done for the day. I did the documented evidence in the word document and also in the blog. In the create stage, I referred back to the plan stage where I plan the time and step by step. We have ten lessons to finish this advertisement. However, in seven lessons, I have already finish the newsletter. For the three lessons, I ask my friends for their opinions about my newsletter.

Evaluation -> In this evaluation stage, I basically evaluate everything that I have done in all the investigation, design, plan and create and also evaluation stage. I also did peer to peer evaluation. I wrote about the most and the least success I think I should get more feedback from other people not only my friends.

Before the creating the advertisement, I will have to find which design and what kind of material i will use to make it. After the product, I will have to see whether the product is good enough.

Successful Point and Least Successful Point I think the most successful part of this whole project maybe in the investigation and the create stage. I think I did well in the investigation because I get a lot of information in the investigation stage. I think I also did well in my create stage because I get all the information and pictures that I needed. I also finished making the advertisement before the deadline. After making the advertisement, I ask my friend about their opinion, most of them told me that it was very detailed and do it was good.

The least successful point is maybe the design stage. I think I’m not really creative. The design of every advertisement almost all look alike. I think I have to actually be more creative and make something different to show the client what we’ve got in the school. When I make the last design, I could already choose which design I will choose for the final design. The design I chose is design 6 which was the final design that I made. If I can come up with a more creative design, I think the final product can be more attractive.

Saturday, November 5, 2011

Modifications/Improvement - I should be more creative and start making an interesting and attractive advertisement to use. - I have to have all the information first before putting all the information together. - I think my poster have to be more colorful. - The size of the font that I use should increase because it’s really small now. - If one page is not enough, I should have extend it to two pages long.

The impact on society and impact on the environment Impact on society With this newsletter, people like parents and children who go to other school and parents who did not know that SWA existed will start to become familiar with this school. They will start to know about teh activities in our school. If they are interested to this school, they might probably enroll in our school.

Impact on the environment Newsletter is going to be printed in papers. Paper is from trees. Trees will keep decreasing if a big amount of paper is being used. If trees is being cut down, it will take a long time to grow a new tree. I think this is one of the main issue in this world right now.
