History of Celina

Alla Hubbard School In the late 1800s, Dr. Moses Hubbard and Mary Jane Sutton dedicated 1,000 acres of land to establish the Alla Hubbard School in honor of their late daughter. Combining the Emerson and McWhirter School Districts, the Alla Hubbard School was one of the first consolidated schools in Texas. The school opened in 1896, offering free educational programming to students spanning nine grades. This was unique for the times as there was little support for free public education. The school was eventually incorporated into the Celina School District and served as a middle school for many years. Years later, after the building was no longer in use, it was struck by a tornado and destroyed. Although the school was destroyed, the historical significance is remembered through its former students and the Alla Hubbard Memorial at the school's former site (now the location of Celina High School).

you will find that the Celina ISD encompasses six schools that serve thousands of students over 96 square miles. Today, Celina schools boast academics to be proud of an "A" accountability rating from the Texas Education Agency. Celina ISD athletic programs hold the title of Myriad State Championships. Hometown pride for our Bobcats runs deep; orange gear can be spotted on nearly any day in the City. Interested in learning more about Celina ISD or the schools in the District? Click here to explore our new interactive map which includes photos, links to the District website, and more! Sources Huddleston, J., Lair, J., & Cox, B. (1976). Reminscences of Celina.

We have come a long way since the days of one public school serving Celina. Fast forward to 2021 and

competition and was able to advance to the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) state level.

After competing and preparing for their separate events, juniors Adele Clarke, Bekah Stuart, and senior Zachary Flores were awarded the all-state title for cross country (CX), choir, and band respectively.

“I was really honestly surprised, I was nervous the entire time afterwards,” Flores said. ”I was just curious because last year I didn't do too well nor the year before that. I really wasn't expecting to do well this year.”

“I knew from her eighth-grade year that [Stuart] had the ability to do this,” choir director Adam LeMaire said. “She could have done it last year, too, but this year she finally made it, and I think she's gonna make it next year, too.”

Apart from making state with the girl’s CX team, Clarke placed first individually in the 4A girls category.

Flores competed in the Association for Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) area

“I had a little setback during district, so I was nervous,” Clarke said. “Everything worked out in the end, I'm really happy.” Continued on next page.

Clarke hopes to participate in the Nike Cross Regionals and qualify for nationals. However, for musicians Stuart and Flores, the all-state experience will be hindered or canceled altogether due to COVID-19.

“I hope that they can look at and say ‘we did something of note’ because they weren't able to celebrate it like they normally would,” LeMaire said. “To beat out 70,000 at the top performers in the state is something that should be shouted from a mountain top.”

“I thought it was needed for [Stuart] and [Flores] to be recognized,” LeMaire said. “I wrote [Senator] Ted Cruz and [Representative] Van Taylor, and they both sent me back letters of congratulations. ”Both students received a U.S. House of Representatives Certificate of Congressional Recognition from Van Taylor and a letter of congratulations from Ted Cruz. Although they weren’t able to receive the full experience, LeMaire hopes this will give the students a sense of accomplishment.

Meet Your Officers

Officer Chase Guidera Officer Guidera has been a member of the Celina Police Department for approximately six years. Before becoming a Police Officer, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps for five years (1997-2002) as a jet engine mechanic working on AV-8B Harrier (Jump Jet) in Cherry Point, NC. During his enlistment, Chase oversaw the day-to-day operations of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and flight line operations. After completing his tour with the U.S. Marine Corps, Chase moved his family to Las Vegas where the economy was strong at that time, and became a Conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad. However, due to the economic downturn of the early 2000s and the threat of cutbacks, Chase became a State Trooper for the Nevada Highway Patrol in 2008. "People often ask me why I moved to Texas to become a Police Officer for Celina PD. I tell them, God wants me here and that my family and I are truly blessed because of it."

Officer Guidera is currently the Community Service Officer/Public Information Officer, which also covers crime prevention. Officer Guidera currently oversees community-related projects such as the Citizens Police Academy, National Night Out, and Blue Santa, with more projects to come. He is also certified as a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Specialist, which allows him to have input for the City's design from a crime prevention standpoint. "I am truly blessed to work with the residents of Celina, for they are the reason that this City is great. We as Police Officers are humbled by all the love and support, we receive from this community regularly, and I look forward to continuing to grow this relationship between the community and the Police Department as this City grows".
