CELINA ISD Pictured above: Junior Greyson Blanchard (center) and Senior Jose Martinez (center-right) Written by Celina High School Senior, Judith Matehuala. Contributors include Jocelyn Torres, Reagan Radtke, Karla Presa-Colorado, and Ricky Matehuala. After completing their powerlifting season, senior Jose Martinez, junior Greyson Blanchard, junior Lacie Weinschenk, and freshman Cassie Wilson made it and competed at the THSWPA (Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association) and THSPA (Texas High School Powerlifting Association) State meets in March. The girls competed on the 15th in Corpus Christi and the boys competed on the 27th in Abilene. At regionals, the boy’s team placed second overall at the Kennedale meet and the girl’s team placed twelfth at the Gainesville meet. Other notable athletes that competed at the Kennedale regional meet were junior Brendan Armijo who totaled 1545, junior Michael Reemts who totaled 1555, and junior Ricky Matehuala who totaled 1280.

Armijo and Reemts both placed third in their respective weight classes and Matehuala placed sixth. “I was very proud of all the hard work they put in because Jose has worked extremely hard and so has Greyson for the past three, four years,” Matehuala said. “To see that it paid off was something amazing.” Blanchard broke the Division 2 165 weight class regional record with a 650lbs squat and the state squat record with 685lbs. He also won best squat in the light platform category at regionals and state. He placed third at the state meet. “Leading up to the state meet, I was very focused on getting recovered and dropping enough weight to be able to compete,” Blanchard said. “My main motivation to do well was my powerlifting team and coach supporting me.”

Continued on next page.

CELINA ISD Pictured above: Freshman Cassie Wilson (left) and Junior Lacie Weinshenk (right) Martinez, who competed in the hardest weight class, got third at regionals and placed fifth overall at state.

“I have three more years and right now I feel like it shouldn’t matter,” Wilson said. “I feel I can do way better the next three years.”

“I knew that I was strong but there were some people that were completely way out of my league,” Martinez said. “Sometimes even with no motivation you just gotta get through it.”

Moving forward, Blanchard plans to go up to the 181 weight class and win state. Wilson also plans on making state again next year and place higher.

The girls competed a week before the boys and even hit new personal records at state. Weinschenk PR’ed at 760 for total weight in the 148 weight class.

“We had a really good feeling going into the meet,” powerlifting coach Breck Holman said. “[It] was a great success. We plan on being back.”

“The best part about powerlifting is being able to accomplish new PR’s,” Weinschenk said. “Once you hit the PR that you always wanted to get, it's one of the greatest feelings.” Wilson’s total weight at regionals was 725 and at the Corpus Christi State Competition, it was 740. According to Wilson, she made the decision to not look at her rankings. This decision helped her to avoid the pressure of ranking with a certain score and focus more on lifting.

REAL ESTATE MARKET SNAPSHOT Average Days on Market: 38 Average Price of Home Sold: $475,537 Highest Priced Home Sold: $1,242,488 Total Days of Inventory: 36

Sales Price vs. List Price: 100.27% Number of Sales: 82 April Market Assessment brought to you by Texas Life Real Estate In summary, this is a classic case of supply and demand with home buyers experiencing an extreme shortage of home inventory. Most builders in Celina have a wait list in excess of 100 people before being able to contract to build. Bidding wars are fierce with some homes selling for $100,000 over asking price. To say we are in a seller's market, is a huge understatement. Celina's real estate market is hot! If you are on the fence about selling, now is the time to get off of it.
