Happy New Year!
Welcome back to the new term and a happy new year to all. Last term was very successful as we have come to expect now, and was finished off with ‗Bethlehem‘s buzzing‘ (DVD‘s available from the office priced at £2.50 each). The term has begun in earnest now, with the major event last week being the visit to ‗Cinderella‘ at the Hippodrome. The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. More importantly those who attended had special reasons for their place, as they were all expenses paid places, for those children whose attendance was 100% during the 2010-2011 academic year: Nathan Rowe Kyle Blackhurst Luke Tipping Amy Davies Evie Gardner Joshua Needham Kirsty Tipping Luke Hawkes Jack Gossage Joshua Chirambo Ellie Russell Jodie Leigh Foster Calista Lawry Callum Dixon This is a fantastic achievement not only for the children but also all those who struggled through the bad winter and the sickness bugs. So a big thank you and congratulations to all parents for this achievement. There were many other children who also had very good attendance records who will be given special certificates shortly. The second category of pupils rewarded by the pantomime tickets, were those judged by the management and staff to most closely personify the schools mission statement: Erin Burgess Ryan Dickens Dylan Firth Chloe Ling Luke Rowe Charlie Fairbairn Paige Jackson Mikaela Joof Rebecca Burns Tayla Rees
Skye Rees C.J. Fox Lilliebelle Wall Leah Bishop Cian Ellis Aron Prosser These children are trying on a daily basis to try to make the world a better place. They help create the environment and ethos that encourage other children. They work hard to develop their skills and knowledge to make good choices that have positive consequences in their own lives and that of others. They are looking to the wider world as good citizens, and are authentic, true to themselves self-aware, confident and honest. They are a fantastic example to others in the school and we are very proud to have them as ambassadors for Jervoise and are a great credit to their families. Again we recognise much of the credit goes to all the parents who strive to do their best for their children. We recognise these children are being recognised as the top of the tree but we also acknowledge that we now have a very talented and enthusiastic school of children at Jervoise most of those rewarded this week are higher up the school, but we also have amazing children in Key Stage 1, nursery and reception, I am very confident that the future is very bright for Jervoise, and the example being shown by the older children to the younger ones, is very good and they should all be congratulated, particularly those in Yr5 and Yr6. Other news from Jervoise is that Mrs Potter had a baby boy, mum and baby are thriving and I am sure young Charlie Potter will be a feature of visits in the near future. On the international front, Year 2 had a Skype session with children from Greece toward the end of term they exchanged information, and Christmas greetings and sung Christmas songs in Greek and English. It was a very exciting session enjoyed by all. We will now make this a regular feature. We have the French residential trip for 33 children which will be a fantastic experience for all (except maybe the staff!!). Jervoise now has partner schools in Slovakia, Ireland, Finland, Greece, Cyprus, Belgium, Estonia, Maderia (Portugal), and India, and of course Mexico. This term we are expecting visitors from Lebanon and we have a teacher visit to Ireland. This visit will help us to move forward in our bid to gain a Green Flag, an environmental award which acknowledges our efforts around recycling and cutting our carbon footprint. The Jervoise name will be spread a little further this term, as many of you will know I have spoken about the work we do at Jervoise in Brussels and Berlin last term, 450 Head teachers and school leaders from 34 countries. As a result I have been invited to talk about how we work at Jervoise to headteachers, in Northern Ireland, Germany and Poland. Our new website continues to grow, we have had 2663 visitors from 15 different countries since December. We will be rolling out new features as time goes on. We now have a school calendar on the site which very shortly will have all class activities on it so if you need to know about P.E or swimming times or trips it will all be on the website www.jervoise.bham.sch.uk Please do feel free to make suggestions of what you would like to see on the site. Thank you for all of your continued support last term, it is much appreciated. All the best
