If you have been diagnosed with fibroids, you may well be wondering just what you can do to alleviate the symptoms. There are a number of uterine fibroids treatment options, ranging from conventional to natural methods. In general, many doctors recommend "watchful waiting" (i.e. doing nothing) as fibroids will shrink around the menopause. Now this is fine if your fibroids are small and your symptoms mild, but for those suffering from terrible symptoms and who have many years to go before the menopause, then this is not an option. One of the problems with fibroids is that conventional medicine can only treat the symptoms of fibroids rather than the root cause. This means that even if you manage to have the fibroids removed, or use drug treatment to suppress hormones, causing shrinkage, then your fibroids are likely to regrow. This is because you are not taking steps to eliminate the root causes. The following uterine fibroids treatment options can be considered Hysterectomy The surgical removal of the womb should never be undertaken unless necessary. It signals the end of your childbearing years and should not be done if there is any chance whatsoever that you might want children in the future. The ovaries might also be removed or they may be left in place, particularly in younger women. However, each can have potentially serious consequences. A hysterectomy is a major procedure and there is the risk of severe bleeding, bowel injury or difficulties with urination. Even if the ovaries are left intact, there is always the risk that disturbing them during surgery can alter the normal functioning and therefore bring about an early menopause shortly afterwards. Even with normal functioning ovaries post-surgery, women who have a hysterectomy experience the menopause five years earlier. In addition, there is the increased risk of heart disease and osteoporosis. Loss of libido can also be a problem for some women. Myectomy This is a procedure to remove individual fibroids and less invasive than some other options as the uterus remains intact, allowing women the potential to become pregnant. There can be problems such as excessive bleeding and the formation of scar tissue. There are different ways of performing a myectomy and the procedure will depend on the size and location of the fibroids. There are basically three different ways of performing the operation. The first method involves a horizontal abdominal incision and the surgeon has full access to the uterus

and removes the fibroids. The second method is by a laproscopy, whereby the surgeon gains access to the uterus either by a small incision in the abdomen or via the vagina. The inside of the uterus can be seen by a small camera which is inserted through another cut and the fibroids are removed. This is not always suitable for large fibroids and the strength of any repair made to the uterine wall may not be as robust as pre-surgery. Lastly, the blood supply can be destroyed by an electric current, which therefore causes the fibroids to reduce. Uterine Artery Embolization Not as invasive as the other methods and recovery takes less time. Small beads or particles are injected into the blood vessels which supply the fibroids. This interruption causes the fibroids to shrink. Care needs to be taken that the blood supply to other important organs is not affected. Endometrial Ablation This involves the removal of the womb lining, including the fibroids using laser surgery, an electric current or other heat treatment. It is unsuitable for those who wish to have children in the future and cannot be used to treat uterine fibroids which grow on the exterior of the womb. Natural Treatments As an alternative to the above uterine fibroids treatment options, many women worldwide have found that natural treatments can work very well, not only to shrink fibroids, but to keep them away. The reason why it can work so well is because a multifaceted approach is used which not only deals with eliminating the symptoms of fibroids, but will eliminate each and every possible root cause, ensuring that fibroids simply cannot thrive within your body.

The lack of comprehensive "real" help for women led an alternative practitioner to develop a complete system for shrinking fibroids which mirrored what she taught women in her busy clinic.
