This is the first anthology series for Eye Level Richmond North. My task has been a comparatively pleasant one that is, reading through the collection of prose and poetry written by some of our talented young illustrators and creative writers. In selecting the materials for inclusion good writing was not my sole criterion. Some of the work included here is not first-rate, although much of it is. This anthology is a reflection of a diverse range of contemporary writers the topic ‘My Friend’ has been painted in many landscapes and identities. The written pieces are not just about making identity, but also about reflecting on the various identities these young writers have constructed for themselves. There is a very strong connection between our writers and their friends, real or imaginary, as expressed vividly in body text and numerous iconic drawings.

One of the most exciting aspects of working on this anthology is the discovery of some wonderful young illustrators and writers. I am very grateful to the parents who have been very supportive, and who have encouraged their young writers to write. They have behaved in the same spirit as these young writers. There is no shortage of good poetry in this anthology. Enjoy!
