CURRENT TRENDS STYLE: FROM FEMININE GOWNS TO PRETTY PANTSUITS In 2019 trends, styles range from supremely feminine to lovely pairs of pants and jumpsuits. For brides who are feeling girly, bows, glitter, and puffy sleeves are a stylish way to embrace your femininity. Bows can define a bride’s waist, bring a fabulous flourish, or be a sweet, subtle accent for dress straps. Going all-out glittery really ups the glam factor, with many gowns being covered in shimmer or trimmed with reflective confetti. Puffy sleeves today aren’t like the bulbous ones on 80s wedding dresses; rather, they are everything from sheer and ethereal to boldly modern shoulder treatments. Jumpsuits and white pantsuits are also redefining bridal style. In 2019, brides will say “yes” to not only the dress, but also jumpsuits, rompers, and a variety of stunning separates. This is indeed a fashion-forward trend. Also adding some modern edge to bridal fashion: Geometric designs. Though lace is a classic that will always be in style, textiles are tending toward sharp, linear stripes, diamonds, and angular stitching for a sense of modernity. All of the above, by and large, will be rendered in shades of white and ivory, though blush and other pale hues creep in from time to time. Bridesmaids still reflect this softness, wearing a range of neutrals and metallics. But color is also seeing a resurgence. In addition to barely-there palettes, brides are coming back around to playful and dramatic color schemes, as a way to highlight their own personal preferences. Bridesmaids also continue to have more freedom. For example, 38 • PREMIER BRIDE www.PremierBrideMKE.com

the bride may request that each girl find a long gown in a particular color family. It’s about a pleasing mix rather than uniformity. For an especially elegant affair, long gowns in black are a striking choice. As brides get on board with color, so do the grooms. For the more daring fella, suits in sophisticated shades of blue, grey, burgundy, and green are starting to take the place of traditional black tuxedos. WEDDING THEMES: HOMEY & MODERN IN HARMONY While the classic wedding is always in style, couples are also choosing reception venues that allow for a lot of creativity — sites where you pay to rent the space, but are responsible for bringing your own décor, catering, and other rentals. Rustic-chic weddings are still very much en vogue, but the trend is shifting from burlap and mason jars to a combination of earthy and glamorous. You’ll see elements like crystal chandeliers, eclectic antique place settings, and Instagram-worthy lounge areas staged with vintage furniture. As with wedding dress textiles, 2019 also points to more modern, clean, and geometric touches in wedding theme and décor. Cool white marble contrasts with warm rose gold accents. Angled, terrarium-inspired flourishes abound, adding a sort of contemporary whimsy to the scene. The goal for many couples is to capture certain trendy touches while maintaining an ambiance that’s inviting, homey, and speaks to their combined personality.
